Battery, Solenoid, Isolator Setup

My motorhome is setup differently than the manual describes. Is there a reason why the PO would have chose to set it up this way? Should I hook them up according to the manual?

The red text is the way the system is setup currently.

That would be a good starting point.

Whoever wired the spotlight to the alternator tap on the isolator didn't have a clue what was going on, so starting over is a good idea.

I often find that if the system is working, it is probably connected properly. I have been working hard on a problem in my 95 Classic MH that is not charging the batteries enough.

In the process, I have learned a bit about isolators. (by the way, the top photo/schematic is not an isolator, it is a relay/solenoid). The bottom is an isolator. I have found a few web sites that discuss connections on isolators, one of them is at www.surepower.com/pdf/180012q.pdf. If you want the main web site, it is Sure Power Industries.

The trick for me, and perhaps for you is to figure out all the various wires connected to the solenoids and isolator. My AS schematics are very vague and leave me with more questions than answers, and hours of tracing near impossible wiring.

It looks as if the isolater in now mis used. The solenoid, as advertised, just adds the third battery for starting. Alternator should go to middle isolator post, one main battery on either end. As wired, the spotlight will only work with the engine running.
