Battery Placement

My 1975 AS 31' has 1 battery located in a compartment under the kitchen cabinets. I want to put an additional 12v battery somewhere and hook the 2 batteries in parallel. I was thinking of putting 1 battery under the couch in the front of the trailer and running the wires in conduit under the trailer to the current location and hooking it to the existing battery or placing 2 batteries under the couch up frond and running the wires to the inverter under the kitchen. Which way di you think I should go?I will be using gel batteries.

I hope you are changing or have already changed out the converter / charger to a 3 stage one that is compatible with gel cell batteries. The original Univolt converter was designed for flooded wet cell batteries that can be topped up when the water is boiled off. They kill maintenance free batteries.
