battery location

Hi Everyone,
I've been looking into installing a solar panel recharging system. I have a 75 27' Overlander International Rear Bath, from what I have been reading I should use a double battery storage system. Presently, I have one battery in its own compartment, curbsize rear, but there's only enough room for one battery. Before I get out the sawz-all, can someone tell me someplace to place two batteries?

How many watts of solar panel? You may not need 2 batteries. If you do and your present one is over a few months old it should also be replaced. Batteries in a bank should always be the same age and capacity.

As for placement, look at the weight distribution of the trailer and how you stow what you carry (balance side to side and front to rear). Space that is invaluable to one person is a waste to another, this will also affect the location.

Camping World has 100 watt panels "on sale" for $749. For another $110 you can get a Honda EU2000i generator and be done with it. I have boondocked for 3 days using lights and water pump sparingly, and not run the battery down completely. But we don't watch TV unless we have AC power. We also use flash lights and propane lanterns for light. You would be surprised how conservative you can be if you put your mind to it. I am also thinking of putting a propane light in the dining area.

Are you looking for a solar panel that will keep the battery charged after using lights and water pump in the early morning and at night or are you looking to power fans during the day, much use of the pump for dishwashing and showers?

I have two 105 amp hr. Delco Voyager batteries that are kept on a 5 watt solar charger/maintainer. I have run the furnace all night in 37 degree weather, several lights on for an hour and a small fan for several hours during a nap in the afternoon. By the end of the day, the 5 watt has charged the batteries back up with the use of good sunlight.

I don't think you have to have 2 batteries but it sure helps. If you run a number of 12 v. systems during the day then a good size panel, 50 or 75 watt, may power those fans and water pump while keeping the battery up.
