I am currently researching the Caravel trailer and the Excella motor home.
The Caravel I could pull behind my AMC Eagle Station Wagon. I have located an Excella motor home and want to find out if it will be a good candidate for restoration.
Right now, research is about all I can do. Although that will determine what tools I buy and the skills I learn to do the work.
The tongue weight may be a little much for your AMC wagon. You have leaf rear springs, so perhaps an Air Lift assist would do the job. Is your wagon a 6 or V8?
The AMC is the big six. It had an airlift package as an option. I will need to find one of those and install it. I will also need to find or make a Class 2 or 3 hitch. I am also thinking of putting in a standard transmission instead of the automatic it has now and putting in the differential that was used with the towing package. If I need the V8 I could add one, but the 1987 AMC Eagle wagon was supposed to be able to do this with the inline 4.2 liter 6.
What does your experience indicate?
Also, the turbo diesel for the Excella very much interests me and I am thinking that I would like to have that option or install it if this one does not have it.
Thanks for your reply.
Neal
