Smile Just Picked Up Our New Airstream

We've been members of the Airforums for almost 5 years, and we finally bought an Airstream! She's a 25' Safari Aft Bedroom, with the sofa and fold out table in front. We've owned a 28 ft Starcraft that had a front sofa and slideout dinette. Dee decided she would rather have the sofa than the dinette.

We were visiting my Mom in Venice, the first week of March, and stopped by the little Bates lot to look at Airstreams. It was love at first site! Now we have our silver wedding anniversary present a little early.

What a difference towing the Safari vs the Starcraft. We never took many trips with the Starcraft because Dee was terrified every time a truck would nearly blast us off the road. With the Airstream, she did half the driving coming back from Florida to our home north of Atlanta. We took
some state highways from Perry, GA northward to avoid the Atlanta freeways. We did venture onto I75 for several miles, and the trucks
didn't budge the Safari. Our Tow Vehicle is an 03 Chevy Suburban.

We used the movie feature of our digital camera to take pictures of the hitch hookup. We decided to go with the Reese Strait Line after reading all of the great information on this site about hitches. When we couldn't remember whether to use the 4th or 5th link, we had to look it up on the camera.

We are looking forward to taking a lot of trips with Hazel (named after
Dee's grandmother).

Congratulations! We went from a small Starcraft to a 20' Airstream. Even though the Airstream is 1500 pounds heavier than the Starcraft, it tows better and we get better gas mileage.

Enjoy your new toy!

Congrats on the new addition to your family. You learn well. I was on the Fourm's also before purchasing our vintage Airstream. I had already purchased a hitch for a enclosed car trailer and then didnt buy it but kept the hitch. It also is a straight line Reese/DrawTite. My wife HATES interstates,so we also travel alot of back roads and we meet the big trucks with not even a wiggle.
We learned everything we know Right here on the forums.
Enjoy!
Roger

Congratulations on your new Stream. Why avoid Atlanta highways. We are lucky to live right off 285 in Dunwoody so our trip through Atlanta is usually pretty easy. But, I admit I am white nuckle until I see Atlanta in my rear view mirror.

I forgot to mention this before - one thing to prepare yourself for, seriously - that first scratch/dent/scrape/ will KILL you no matter where it is, inside or out.

I get really torqued whenever a new car gets one - the first one in our AS almost brought me to tears! I hope it never happens to you, but you should prepare nonetheless - especially since Hazel is a brand new TT.

Congratulations! Nice looking trailer. If I thought I could give up the dinette, that model would be a serious contender. Enjoy!

Congrats, we have the same rig.

We just bought ours which is identical to yours 2008 25B, and will pick it up next week. I shopped only days, but have lusted for an AS for thirty years since my Dad owned one in the 70's.

We got the layout and the deal we really wanted, and because the 09's are in now, the dealer was movin em out at almost cost if not a bit less(if you believe that.) We're extremely happy, and can't wait to have it in our driveway. Better yet, we can't wait to be camping in it.

So as they say; "great minds think alike." Happy to be a member of this forum and the AS owners fraternity.
