Hello from new Airstreamers

Hello Everyone,

My wife, Kris, and I brought home our new 27FB Flying Cloud yesterday. We ordered it on Jun 17th, it arrived in Tampa on Aug 29th.

We had a SOB for 10 years and I thought I could keep it together forever, until it was obvious that it wasn't built to last so we made the leap.

We wanted to thank everyone for all of the info posted here, it has been a great help.

Terry & Kris

Welcome!

Almost as much fun as traveling with your trailer, making it your own!

Hi, welcome to the family!! Our AS Excella is 31 years old (build date 6/88). We have owned it 5 years and it's still solid, although some components have been upgraded, only the fridge actually failed (in 2007). We reseal many of the seams every year, keep it somewhat protected when not using (carport), shouldn't use an rv cover as it may damage the clearcoat. We did ok with our SOBs (1971, 1992, 1996 and 2000 model years) and see our AS on par with them, still have our 2000 Lance slide-on!! While new rigs are fantastic(congratulations on yours!!), just concerned with the new technology and its lifespan. I am sure with proper care the shell will last, the axles will be good for 25+/- years (replaced ours at 27years), the clear coat maybe 7-10 years, depending in where you live and/or how it's stored (ours is decent on the sides, upper endcaps not so much). Probably the biggest thing we watch for is leaks (hence the annual resealing), they say all AS s leak, but we haven't seen any in ours in the last 5 years. The only floor rot observed was from and improper fridge replacement (condensation tube not routed out of trailer). Replaced floor (carpet to click type floating floor), no leakage indicators found, so the PO kept up with trailer maintenance as well. We hope you have a great time with your AS, stay with this forum, much info here and have many safe travels!!
Regards, Jim and Gretchen

Welcome to the Airstream owners community. I think you will find these Forums very useful to you, and fun as well.

Airstreams do last a long time due to their aluminum body and solid design. Ours is a 86 Limited and I have renovated a 75 Overlander. As stated, they will last a very long time with good maintenance.
