Alternative rear bumper...40's truck?

My '62 Safari has nothing on the back. Not even a sign of a rear bumper. I refuse to pay $399 to VTS, love them but that's too steep. I ordered one from airstreamsupply only to find out a week later they don't have it.

What alternatives do I have? I have heard rear bumpers from 40's trucks look good. Is this true?

Hi from AZ. . . ran in to a fellow with a 23' AS that had a '56 Olds front bumper on the rear ! It was terrific looking, And everybody was looking at it. It was covering/dressing up a storage box he had fashioned. . .In other words, you are limited only by your imagination ! Regards, Craig

Make one...

My '64 Bambi II bumper was dinged, dented, and rusty. I had a new one made out of 2" x 3" steel box tube. The ends were angled 20 degrees to give it some shape. Two pieces of angle iron were welded on to attach (bolt) to the frame and all is good. This guy is much sturdier than the original thin C channel bumper.

I had the metal already (bought a good bit of it to fix the frame), and it was not expensive.

No need to pay too much, truly improvise, or settle for something that looks like it does not belong.

After searching I think you mean these step vans. I found this page: Stepvan Front Bumpers

It looks like "D" is close to airstream, only a little too wide. I guess I could cut a section out and weld it back together and then repaint it black.
