No cost lift?

I notice that my (new to me) 55 Safari has a straight axle with leaf springs mounted underneath and sits pretty low. Any reason not to move the springs to the top of the axle to gain some ground clearance? My 55 Flying Cloud was set up this way and the extra clearance was nice to have.

BT,

It's an option and done on 4x4's everyday.

My 56 Safari FK has one heck of a spring-pack and if swapped like you're talking about, would be way to high in my opinion. Not sure of the type of tires you run, but my 56, I have 7.00x15 which are about 29.75 inches high with a stronger sidewall and taller than trailer radials (does not flex and roll/sway). It gives the trailer extra height, instead of the squatting radial. Plus, I've seen way to many thread started on the forums saying "Tire blew out causing 5K in damage".

Is there any chance after 64 years the springs have just weakened and need to be replaced?

Enjoy,
