Elvis is mentioned, so maybe somewhere near Memphis. I have a vague memory there's a religious theme park somewhere, and that could be the promised land, but for other than religious reasons, Dollywood pops into my mind (the lower, primitive brain part) and isn't that in Tennessee too? If you like country music, Nashville could be the promised land. Enough speculation.

I believe you are thinking of Graceland. 
The old TV show, “Promised Land” shot some in Natchez, but it is farther to Tupelo than I thought. That was my line of reasoning, but wish I had checked the distance first.

There is a river, sort of, sometimes. There are also several lakes, more some times than others. The land is pretty flat, except where there are hills, and there are few trees, except where they grow.

I took the photo below about 3 weeks ago while I was there. Most of y'all didn't even notice I was gone, I had Sophie working in the mod shack in my place. Since I heard no complaints, I guess she did all right.

Well, the Salinas Valley is flat as is the central valley, but there are many high mountains in California, including the highest in the Continental US.
