Now, to lead everybody through the clues I left...
The Promised Land, both from the Elvis song, and the Steinbeck novel. Also, in the movie "Men In Black", there is a brief reference to Elvis "going home", while the song "Promised land" is playing. The song also directly references the area we are moving to.
There are several rivers, but they only have water during rainy season (whenever that is--it has never rained in California any time I've been there).
The same for the lakes, both natural and man-made.
There are trees, but most of them are in the higher elevations.

Sorry, it was meant to be fun for the people guessing.

The City of Angels

That's like . . . well, that's like an intercontinental world away from Florida. How exciting!

You said you already had a job with a "facility that caters to the RV crowd". Care to elaborate?

Hey Terry and Marie, we wish you safe travels and hope you love your new destination and job. The BVan-Airstream combo is cool and the van looks very sharp and comfy. Nice to have a 2 home apartment on the road too. I bet it will be very useful and you'll also have a lot of fun with it.

following your thread

I began full timing in America eight years ago. I hope someday to get my wife, a full time South Easterner to experience the West, North, North West and far South before our time is done.
Good luck Terry, Marie, and Sophie.

I was going to guess Salt lake City, but didn't because it seemed too far out there. At least it's a pretty close match to the Promised Land clue.

I won't confirm or deny where I am or am not going to be working, the Los Angeles are has dozens of RV places, as well as RV parks (one that I know of is a nudist RV park), and it could be any or none of them. Marie tells me I'm a big tease...
Meanwhile, in the "things happen fast at our house" department, I found, and glommed onto a deal on a late model 3/4 ton Silverado pickup. It's now sitting out front, ready to be tweaked into a tow vehicle for Bertha. I'll post picutres of the latest addition to the fleet tomorrow evening when it's still light out.

I took care of a few items over the last few days, such as finding a new home for the old truck, and checking over the new truck. I removed the brake controller from the old truck, and found there were a few things that seem to be done to make a bake controller work in the new one. It is what we here call a "contractor's special", as it has the big engine, automatic transmission, heavy duty suspension, and little else. Then again, I don't have to worry about the power windows not working, or the power door locks failing, or the power seat shorting out, or the CD player not working, because it has none of these things.
I also moved the cap (topper) from the old truck to the new one, and discovered that even though the new truck is a lot bigger overall, the bed is several inches narrower, especially at the rear.
We cleaned most of the old cigarette detritus from inside the new truck. It seems the original owner never met a cigarette he didn't like (and smoke). I feel like I'm driving a 6000 pound ashtray.
The trailer hitch receiver was a source of concern, as this year had issues with them failing at the most inopportune moments (like when towing a trailer). I crawled under the truck and verified it had been replaced. Whew! Then I looked more closely. One of the welds is cracked, rendering the receiver unsafe for use. Crap!
Over the next several days I hope to get everything ready to go. Here is a couple of pictures of the old and the new:

Now, on to more issues...
I bought the trailer tow harness kit required for this year and model truck, and hooked it up. For some reason, there was no power to the harness, even with the new maxi-fuse installed. After much cursing and gnashing teeth (my teeth are getting pretty worn down from all this gnashing) and several phone calls, I have discovered that the truck managed to leave the factory without the computer being programmed to operate the trailer tow package. Chevrolet will be happy to reprogram it for me, for a nominal fee ($175, maybe more). I have decided to go low-tech, and wire everything up as if it was 1977 again... It seems a waste of time, materials, and resources to bypass perfectly good stuff, but my $175 can be better spent on other things we really need, like a new trailer receiver ($169). I've also discovered I can't even upgrade the factory radio (am/fm), because the onboard computer will think the truck has been stolen by having a non-OEM radio installed, and shut down, again requiring reprogramming the computer...
