Awning went bye-bye

Well, it didn't seem windy but while we were sitting inside, our guests said that they watched a strong gust of wind blew by and took our main awning with it!

Any words of wisdom before I contact the insurance company? We did take pics of the awning immediately afterwards.

Be prepared to have the insurance company take a 10 to 20 percent depreciation per year on the awning, depending on it's manufacture.

Nothing will stop Mother Nature if she has a mind to destroy your awning....

That having been said, we use a Camco Awning Strap...they are inexpensive (usually around $15) and the most effective system we have seen. They add a great deal of stability to the awning. I like it because it has a strap that runs the whole length of the awning just behind the awning tube, so there is euqal pressure on the awning for its entire length... It's easy to use, and you can release it very quickly should you decide to put the awning away...or need to in a hurry. We still put the awning away if we are gone form the triler or if it is unpredictably windy....and at night.

Yep, we lost one our first year.

The best tiedowns we have found are long bungee straps we bought at a Scheel's I think. Much more secure than those adjustable cords.

Darn rogue winds, they come out of knowhere.

Saw a big beach umbrella go nearly out of sight once in one.

Also saw one get folded back, over the trailer, knocked out the front window in the guy's truck parked in the site behind. Double trouble.

Some policies cover them 100%.
