Dad's Folly

Greetings all!

Started out searching for just the right Classic Motorhome. After several failed attempts, thought I had found "the one". Drove for 12 hours and a restless nights sleep. The next morning we went to get our first glimpse of the Moho. As we drove up, I started thinking it "doesn't look the photos"...

To make a long story short, the list of "cons" far exceeded the "pros". We left for that long journey home. Wife suggested we detour to Louisiana to visit friends as we were only a couple of hours away.

Spent 3 days with our friends. Got to try my first Crawfish Boil and Boudin Sausage. OMG! On the morning of our departure, host remembered a friend had an Airstream for sell. Yep, had to go take a "look-see".

Well, the rest is history... we came, we saw and we bought. Proud owners of 1995 31 foot Land Yacht!

Trip home was uneventful. Noted minor discrepancies, dash a/c inop, headliner sagged in 2 locations and cosmetic issues.

Pleased with purchase and looking forward to our first Shakedown cruise on 20APR12.

It's been a busy week...

Sealed all the roof seams, a/c, vents, etc...with Eternabond Tape (2 rolls 4" X 50').

Gorilla glued the headliner in two spots
Replaced Low beam and 2 marker lights
Changed plugs & wires
Replaced broken battery "knife" switch
Changed oil & filter, used synthetic
Lubed the suspension (looked like it hadn't been performed in years)
Generator - changed oil & filter
Replaced blown fuses
Repaired overhead fluourescent lights
Repaired Toilet Valve (stuck)
Removed Panasonic CRT Tv, repaired smashed ac/heat hoses (DW gets to pick the replacement LCD, hope she picks a 32"...haha)
Serviced batteries (loose terminals)
Recharged Dash A/C - now blowing cold

Still to do:
Generator - change air filter & plugs (have to figure how to access without dropping the generator

Find inline fuel filter & replace

Replace rear powered vent (power to switch & motor, ground is good...new motor time)

Transmission service

Differential Lube change

Question for the members...
Did 1995 Land Yacht come with Rear Airbags?
While crawling under the RV, noticed leaf springs and shocks only.

Checked front airbags psi...
Driver - 30
Passenger - 0

Drug out the compressor, berated son because he lost the air hose and broke the air filler. Quick trip to tool store and aired up both airbags to 55.

Howdee and to Airforums.com, cesalie2!

It looks like you have repairs well in hand, and are working towards having one fine coach!

And as Masseyfarm pointed out, we are hungry for photos, so shoot a bunch a post away!

Eager to hear about your first trip, which starts this week, it looks?

MasseyFarm, Aage and Alumaholic;

Thank you for the warm welcome and advice!
Read Alumaholics suggested thread...too funny!

I am grateful to the PO that he replaced the tires, filled the gas tank and propane shortly before our purchase.

I have the moho hooked up to home power and the refrigerator & freezer are keeping our drinks cold and ice cream frozen.

Tonite I will replace the PO replacement microwave...unfortunately it was a cheap piece of #%&*. Luckily the DW needed a microwave for work...here you go honey!

Purchased two new pillow top mattresses, will install this evening and shampoo the carpets.

Dowpells, Skatiero;

Thank you. for your kind words.

DW purchased 22" LCD with built-in DVD player. She is trying to decide if she wants it mounted in the bedroom or in the cockpit.

While she was at SAMs Club, she purchased drinking cups, mattress pads, sheets, towels, etc...

I installed the new microwave convection oven and shampooed the carpet while she shopped.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired...

Countdown, only 4 more shopping days until the Shakedown Cruise.

Bring plenty of rubber washers. We got our '96 Cutter last July and had water leaking from many spots. On our first trip, I replaced the on demand water pump and fresh water fill rubber washer due to crazy leaking. Then on our third trip, I replaced the rubber washer on the toilet shutoff valve (after a small flood occurred) as well as the washer in the ice maker supply line (after a small outside flood). When I get a minute, I need to replace all the other washers in all of the plumbing before they fail too.

Enjoy!

AdamB,

Thanks for the advice.
Do you remember the washers sizes?

Countdown to Shakedown

DW has decided she wants the TV installed in the cockpit. Will fab up mount tonight.

Replaced the former microwave with a Stainless Microwave/Convection Oven. Luckily it slid right in with a "little nudge". Will trim out tonight.

Shampooed the carpets front to back and installed mattress pads, sheets, etc...

Nice new towels for the shower and bathroom.

Up at 0400 hours, decided to initiate provisioning of the galley. Rounded up extra pots & pans, plates, flatware, cups, etc...and stowed into the drawers under the stove. Extra Dish Soap, cleansers, etc...under the sink.

Repaired Shower Door (missing screws)

Planned for Wednesday, trial-run of all household systems.

Come on Friday!

Thank you, to all for your encouragement. I have read and re-read so many of the threads in this forum and learned so much.

Derek,
GE Microwave/convection oven, purchased at Burks Outlet...open box but it worked fine in the store.
---
Tonite, DW and I went shopping for fold up lawn chairs. Found wrought iron folding chairs at Target, on sale!

Like a kid in the candy store, picked up lots of odds-and-ends...percolator coffee pot, crock pot, rice steamer, etc...

Son found my small propane grill (wonder how it disappeared?). Fits perfectly in one of the basement storage bins.

Replaced several bulbs in storage bins. Had to repair wiring in generator bin for light.

Wednesday night, trial run of all systems. Plan to cook dinner, take a shower, watch a movie on the LCD and sleep on the new mattress.

Still much to do, can't wait to get started in the morning.

Nice looking MH, it sure helps being handy and mechanical when you own one. I'm sure your enjoying working on the improvements to bring her back into great shape. Keep us posted on your updates, and more pictures.
