Which Banks Parts?

I just purchased a 1988 345 and want to upgrade it with the Banks Power Pack.

I called Banks, and they identified that I'd need part 49052. It should/would include everything I need EXCEPT a potential extension kit. Any idea which extension kit is required for this particular rig?

Also, would you suggest a muffler shop on the install or mechanic?

I had a Banks on my 95 30'... was very happy with it. I got both perfomance and increased mileage because of fewer downshifts.
I think the extension relates to where you want the exhaust to exit... in front of the rear wheel, behind the wheel, or out the back.
What does the unit currently have?

I have the Banks system on my '82 280. If I remember correctly, I think the "extension" is simply another piece of pipe for the longer wheelbases such as the 345. My 280 did not require the extension. No matter what length you have they all exit in front of the drivers side rear wheel. Check out the Banks web site and find the diagram for the proper kit...I believe the diagram shows the extension piece.

And it is California smog legal. Mine is registered in calif and I have to get it smogged every other year. Just make sure you attach the CARB sticker on the air cleaner cover. Whether it is my truck or my motorhome, the smog techs call in those numbers every time to verify the mods are legal.

Even my newer 2005 needs smogging every other year (including sometime in the next couple of months.) Last time was breeze because 4 years ago it would not pass and I had to replace both cat's. perhaps the PO put some bad fuel in it: I only have 20K miles right now. They have never questioned the Banks input or output though.

I did some more digging and found the model and wheelbases from this era (*http://www.airstream.com/wp-content/...acf9884f44.pdf).
270 - 178", 310 - 217", 345 - 224"

Examining the Banks website (Banks Power | 82-95 GM - 7.4L>>PowerPack® System) shows that the 310 and 345 both need the bigger extension kit. The 270 doesn't need one.

So, for my carb version, I think I need part numbers 49052 and 49152.

Based on your comments, I think i need the inside wheelbase not the tag wheelbase. That's 204" on my 345.

That means I need the extension 49150

I just installed kit 49069 with extension kit 49155 on my 82 310. I used the EFI kit because all of my emissions stuff has been removed. I did not want to have to plug the air tube holes on the headers. No smog test required here in New Hampshire, good thing since a the smog pump was long gone before I purchased the motorhome. I was very impressed with the quality of the kit and the fit of the components. I had no troubles installing it myself.

The extension kits are sold based on your wheelbase, just measure the length from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear axle and pick the appropriate kit. The extension kit allowed my exhaust discharge to be right in front of the rear tires. I had to cut 3-4" off one of the pipes in the extension kit.

I would consider a mechanic instead of the exhaust shop because the kit includes the intake parts and does require some changes to the springs in the transmission shift governor.
