Need Mercury Switch for door lock - 1982 Airstream Excella
Need alternate to OEM. Replacement mercury switch, DuraKool A1-002 is available online but is very expensive at $40+ before shipping and tax.
If anyone has devised an alternative, inexpensive solution, please advise. One of the conductors on the OEM switch broke at the connection to the switch with not enough length to solder an extension conductor to it.

1974 31' Excella trailer (parting out, as of 4/1/2015 I have wheels & windows left to sell)
My idea was to replace with an IR sensor mounted to/in the wall and some aluminum foil on the back of the deadbolt
That way the flimsy wires running to the deadbolt would be eliminated, since they're succeptible to being pulled out (what happened to mine)
