I am just an Airstream wanabe. Trying to convince my wife this is the way to go. I know I wouldn't be able to camp in SOB with the Airstream group...but could we enjoy the activities? Can we pay an entrance fee and join in. Might help sway the little lady.

It always sounds like it's a madhouse. It just sounds like such a HUGE deal, when really I just want to get together and visit with friends. I mean, obviously some preople really enjoy it, and that's great, but it just doesn't sound like our kind of thing.
Carl, come to a forum rally. If that doesn't sway her, nothing will!

It is what you make it.
If you just want to hang out with other like-minded folks (like most VAC'rs/Forum-Folks) then that's fine. I went to many of the 'official' events because as an officer, I was representing our unit. As just an attendee, I may not...

Forum Rallys are informal gatherings originated here on the airstreamforums.com. Typically one of the members will post a proposed gathering spot and date, then interested members will respond with their interest in attending. Unlike WBCCI Rallys, each member typically makes his or her own reservations with the selected campground. There usually aren't Rally Fees as are common with WBCCI Rallys, but there also aren't formal activities or meetings. A Forum Rally is informal, campout style rallying. Membership in any formal organization is not required at Forum Rallys, and Airsteam/Argosy ownership is not a pre-requisite to attend -- I have been at Forum Rallys where attendees were in a variety of different manufacture RVs -- the central thread is that all attendees are interested in the Airstream way of life. The flavor of the Forum Rallys tend to be a bit different from WBCCI Rallys -- each has its own charm, and I enjoy both types of rallys.

Here's a section devoted just to the Forum Rallies...check it out & see if there is one upcoming near you. If not, maybe if you post a thread showing you interest there will enough interest to get one going!
Forum Rallies Forum
There's also pictures & dialog about past Forum Rallies...
You will see, they are usually a group planned event (no host) so you don't have to be 'in charge' just get a discussion going...all it really takes is a suggestion to get the fun times started.
"If you plan it, they will come!"

Thanks Kevin, I figured that is what these more local rallys were, but having it explained in a bit more detail is helpful. Carl

Please check the calendar and let us know if you will be attending.

Electric in Vintage Parking Section
Does the Vintage Parking section have both 30 amp and 3 amp service options? Or if you elect the 30 amp service do you have to park elsewhere? Thanks!

I suspect that the layout will be somewhat dependent on layout of the parking site and registration, but may be similar to the 2005 Rally. At the 2005 Rally, the 30 AMP and 3 AMP sections were in separate fields approximately .25 mile apart -- with each area having a Vintage parking section.
I was parked in the 30 AMP section at the 2005 Rally and had a great time. It was such a relief to be able to run my air conditioner that I pre-registered for the 30 AMP section at the 2006 Rally.

Now that I have done a little more research, I have 2 stupid newbie questions.
1) What is the VAC?
2) Do you have to join the WBCCI to attend a ralley?
Thanks, Bruce

Bruce,
VAC is the Vintage Airstream Club, an interclub of WBCCI.
You can attend a rally without joining, but I think that you will want to join after you meet the other members. I have heard that the Northern California Unit is very good. We have met some members who are also members of my El Camino Real Unit in So Cal.
On topic, we will be sending in our registration by the middle of December. At the September Rally in Santa Barbara, we had about 25 units and well over 1/2 said that they were going to Salem for the international.
In fact, members of the El Camino Real Unit are planning a gathering in Sisters, OR after the wagon wheels and before the vintage parade into the International.

Bruce,
Yes, we are members of the VAC but you don't need to be to parade in with them. We will parade in, regardless of which trailer we bring. We will be easy to find as we have the only 1977 Lincoln Continental tow vehicle. We are planning on leaving Orange on Saturday, June 24 in order to be in Salem the day before the Vintage Parade, either Tuesday or Wednesday, I have heard two different dates. Since we are in the parade we will park with the Vintage, not sure of the 30 amp section or the regular section yet. We are taking the short way up through the valley, either 99 or 5. Let me know if you are going and we can caravan part way, we will probably stop the first night near Sacramento and then travel short days from there to Salem. There are many people in So Cal who have told me that they are going so we may have quite a caravan.
Bill
