Rally Southern AZ March 2010

Anyone up for a rally in southern AZ in late march? I dont know the area but expect to be poking around there then and it looks like there are plenty of state parks, BLM land, Forest Service CGs ect for a rally. Who is up for some early spring rallying?

This entry might qualify as a bump up.... In todays AZ Star there was an article about AZ State Parks and threatened closures.

Do you ever consider full hook-up places? We are addicted to electricity, sewer, and water.

The situation at the AZ state parks is pretty dismal. Here's that article:

Which state parks close? | www.azstarnet.com ®

We're watching carefully what happens here in NM, where the legislative proposals to deal with the budget gap are due in the next week. One early proposal was likewise to raid the state parks. Not good!

Yes, I agree! A couple of the "friends of" groups along with the NM Assn of RV Parks and Campgrounds are watching this carefully and plan (once again) to fight any cuts tooth and nail.

Colorado fees went up $2/campsite and reservation fee is up to $10. If you stay only one night, it's very expensive. Colorado is slowly defunding recreation and higher education plus many other things.

Not sure we'd be ready for summerizing at the end of March, but it is tempting.

AZ rally in March

We've never been to a rally, so don't know what to expect. We did locate a "free for 14 day" BLM boondock area a little west of Tuscon. It is very close to a great shotgun shooting area called Coyote Springs. We might be interested in a rally somewhere in that area in March. Keep us posted

Late March will find us in Africa on a photo safari for three weeks but before or after is doable. Even if the State Parks go under, there are numerous boondocking oppertunities in this area.

Thumbs up

Hi Gen,

I'm wintering on BLM land (Pilot Knob) outside of Yuma, AZ and will be in the area in March. Would enjoy meeting you and the rest of the bunch!

There is a great Indian Market at the Heard Museum in Phoenix the first weekend of March that is well worth attending if you like Native American art and jewlery. The weather at that time has usually been pretty nice when we have been there. Will be going again this year with our AS, as long as the mountain passes between here and there are OK.

I would be interested. Going to the Silver Sisters rally 3/12-14th at San Antonio Lake here in CA. CA state park fees have gone up to $35/noc with no hook ups so hope I'm not broke by then.

Silver Strand State Beach, the southern most, warmest, beach in California. A large paved lot with spaces marked. No water, electricity or dump of any kind available, not even for wash water, wants $35.00 for a "regular" spot, that's away from the sea wall, and $50.00 for a "premium" spot next to the sea wall.

Last time I was by, no campers were there. It was a ghost town.

Could be one of the best, most used camps in the country, especially in the winter, empty.

Brannon Island State Park on the Sacramento River is nearly as bad. The park is much nicer, but their "premium" spots are $60.00 per night.

What is going on with those idiots in Sacramento. Does the term "Rocks for Brains" come to mind?

OK, lets narrow it down some. If you are interested which date works best. After we get a date, we can sort out the location (I would think in the Tucson area).

March19-21 (vernal equinox)
or
March 26-28

Check out Bob Thompson's "Free or Cheap in Arizona" Thread...maybe there's something in there that would be good... http://www.airforums.com/forums/f382...ona-21558.html We have not explored any of the places listed... Bob's lists are great...be sure to look through the whole thread for updates to the initial list....
