My nine year old son saw white water kayaking for the first time this year over spring break at Tallulah Gorge and now he wants to get one and go white water kayaking. I told him he had to be much older first. I have been keeping an eye out for one, though (or I should say, two) so he can start learning and we can go kayaking together.
So what kind did you get?

They only reserve a space not a specific site, so we won't know until we pick one.
I usually try to stay over near the boat ramp and fish cleaning area, its a small campground so all the sites are close.
I have a boat reserved and will bring the 'yak" but the boat is down at the Beaverdam Marina, so I might use it down there and not motor it up to the park, its a long ways.

Here was my trial run at Mountain Park Lake. Hit the Chattahoochee the next day.
This is an Ocean Kayak Caper. 11' and about 43 lbs. I will add fishing accessories later, like a rod holder, and such.

Nice looking sit on top unit. There are many kinds of kayaks to choose from these days, all depending on what you need. I believe over time you end with not one kayak but several to meet various conditions. Ours are Perception units, Georgia 12 footers with bow and stern hatches, so they are enclosed similar to an ocean kayak and are ideal for extended day touring. We do several trips each year on the Chattahoochee.

I have been enjoying "yaking" on the Chattahochee river near my home. I found out that this unit is quite stable if a bit slow, but probably just right for me and for eventual use to fish from.
It will be great to have it in Lake Chatuge.
Last reminder if anyone would like to join us at Richard Russell this Sunday through Tuesday, there is space left. PizzaChop and a few others will be there.

Congratulations on your new yak. Looks comfortable. I really enjoyed kayaking on Cascade Lake and up to Hooker Falls this past week. The campground was very crowded on the weekend but ok during the week. We loved the cool temps!

OK, we are signed up - see you all in October. We are supposedly in A34, although as I was looking through this thread it looked like Geven was in that site. I'll reconfirm next week, but we'll be there - somewhere!

Mr. Slowsky,
We are camping in that site....we signed up for a new government program whereas I get the benefit of the site and you pay for it. Ha! Actually we changed sites because we were close to Alan and last time we camped next to him, he complained about the loud music...no wait, that can't be right either...he plays loud music! Ok, ok, now I remember, Ruth and I went back up there camping in May right after Springstream (for a concert) and scoped out some spots after already reserving A34 and changed it to A-twenty something (memory) that we decided would have a great view of the Fall foilage. The spot we changed to also didn't appear to be big enough for a larger trailer so we thought it would free up the A34 for someone else. I thought I posted that I gave it up but who knows...my memory isn't what it used to be...memory, what brought that up...where were we?
Ah now, some of you are only reading this because you saw the word PIZZA...I'll post a new post just for you! Stay tuned...same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Oh man, does that mean I'm stuck across from your loud music?
Good thing I don't mind. Now all I'll have to do is walk across the road to bother you.

Ha! We really moved because it was a small site that not many could have used and it looked like it will have a good view of the mountains across the lake.

A27. We're neighbors, D! She said it's a tight fit for the tradewind (the site's only 27 feet), so I might have to get back working on the pickle! ha! We'll see. Never camped on the hill. Should be fun!

Glad you all are getting ready, now we need the Pizzachop clan to get a reservation. Camped with them this past weekend. Had drop in visits from Geven and Roy and their spouses. A fun time at Lake Russell.
We discovered a pair of islands with a connecting sandy "spit" and had fun swimming in the lagoon they made.

Roy,
It's about a 10-15 minute ride south past the CSX railroad bridge at channel markers 19 & 21. It was very cool and the kids had a blast.
