Burning Man 2020! Planning thread...
Burning Man 2020! Planning thread begins again...
Happy New Year once again Airstreameri!
(and potential Airstreameri)
2020 has arrived (!!!) and another Burn looms in our not too distant future.
Hope everyone is well and your holiday season was just what you wanted.
And yes, it is again time to get the 2020 Playa Planning going.
Hard to believe it started in 2007 when I camped next to Nevada Geo at Burnstream Court. Over the years the addition of all kinds of art and structures and activities and wonderful camp mates has really been amazing.
Here we go again!
*This year's event is: Noon Sunday August 30 - Monday September 7.
*Location: Beautiful Black Rock Desert, Nevada. (The middle of nowhere)
*Theme: Multiverse
According to some of the event organizers, "The 2020 Burning Man Event theme explores the quantum kaleidoscope of possibility, the infinite realities of the multiverse, and our own superpositioning as actors and observers in the cacophony of resonant strings." Whew. That's a mouthful...and again lends itself to unlimited possibilities.
Every year our group of Airstreameri (as we are called) come from all over and meet on the Playa to create a theme camp around our Airstreams. We offer up a variety of things to the Burning Man Community.
Anyone is welcome to join us and participation in the camp is a must.
There are no official "camp fees" but generous donations to help with camp costs are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Each individual is required to buy their own ticket and vehicle pass. Tickets are not yet on sale but visit burningman.org for all the latest info. Tickets do sell out quickly so read all the info and get ready to jump on line when they become available. It’s happening soon.
The Burning Man Event is not for everyone. It's wildly creative and crazy on a 24 hour clock. If you have not attended before, read everything on the Burning Man site about the event and especially the preparation information. It is a boondocking, Leave No Trace event and you must pack in and pack out everything you need. You may also want to sign up for the Burning Man newsletter, the Jackrabbit Speaks, (JRS) to get current updates and info.
It is not a typical music festival. There is an incredible community of participants who build the camps and the city, amazing art, all varieties of music, and constant colorful surprises in every form.
The weather is often rough and always unpredictable. It can be blistering hot, freezing cold, rainy and muddy and usually windy. Your Airstream will be full of soft, talc like dust. It doesn't scratch or damage but it does creep in no matter what you do. And never completely leaves.
Then there are also those perfect days. And beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Just be prepared. Bring enough of everything for yourself and plenty to share.
If you would like to join us, please do. Introduce yourself here and jump on this thread to help with the planning. We like to have a rough idea how many are attending and what they will be camping in so we can very loosely lay out our camp. All are welcome.
We offer a huge dome and a great bar for our camp and the community at large (that anyone can host any time of the day with whatever they would like to share), a shade structure "post office" for making post cards (that we stamp and mail for people), the amazing (VVV) volcano art car will be back better than ever with its newest makeover, there will be a potluck (or several), a variety of games and activities, and of course whatever else you would like to contribute would be great. New ideas/suggestions/offerings are always welcome. Let us know here what you'd like to do. Can't wait to see what shows up!
Looking forward to another even more amazing year.
Let the planning begin!
Cheers,
Laurel (aka Bam)

I recommend watching “Einstein’s quantum riddle” a nova documentary currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Nice intro and background to multiverse concept. Or for fun reading there is a book available still on Amazon “How the hippies saved physics” by David Kaiser. It’s true...reality actually is far stranger than you may have thought.

I'll be there! Got the van's gennie working correctly again, and made a couple of other little boondocking mods that should make Burning Man camping easier, and I am stoked to explore the multiverse Burning Man 2020 style.

As of right now we will do everything we can to get there this year! Already thinking of some new rubber stamp designs to add to the collection! Also looking for a new 'forever bike' to decorate and dedicate to transporting me over the playa in style.

There are no dogs allowed at the event and they are very serious about that.
It would be a pretty tough environment for them anyway.
Sorry. I know, I miss mine too.

Hey everyone, Olga, myself and the kids are in again!
SOOO Excited, lets do this!
I'd love feedback on the dome from last year. I've already organized improving the setup and takedown with better bolts but would love feedback on anything that could have been improved.
I know the floor tape was a bit loose and could be improved... Also, I think since we're getting a shipping container we should consider some used couches, I'll look into that.
Please provide other feedback so I can improve it each year!

Jon, the dome was a great add last year! I'm thinking about it, and will toss ideas out there once I've been able to ruminate on it some more. I'm all for seating on top of the container. Perhaps we could makeshift with some cushions,2x4's and plywood sheets? (Just thinking space savers, but that may not be that big a consideration, and couches are such a lovely respite in the desert.)
I was thinking about having an external battery charged by a solar panel (on the dome roof?) that could be used to power some LED lights at night. It would be nice for the dome (and postcard area?) to have an independent power system. Low tech due to playa conditions.
I'm also thinking about the postcard area, and what would make it better next year. Its a popular neighborhood destination, hot spot, and so fun to host!!

Can' t wait to fire up again!
This year the VVV will be absolutely problem-free or I'll eat a plate of dust! A whole new smoke/fog apparatus that will not fail; Engine modified and almost rebuilt- new clutch, new cooling tubing, new radiator and more; New failproof generator set up; sparks galore and I am now working on low frequency earthquake sounds and shakes for our passengers' titillation and enjoyment!
Thank goodness we have BRC to keep us sane in this default world.
