Area 33, 2008 Troutlake, WA
Once again the pods are returning to the coolest and most secret camping location in the Pacific NW. Hollenbeck Park located near Trout Lake WA.
This rural spot sports a group camp area with fire ring - wood included, great views, a babbling brook, 2 lovely porto-lets, 1 elect plug (for all to share) and a potable water spigot. Think boon-dockers delight. If you want to shower you can drive a couple of miles down the road to the county park or swim in the creek (cows will be watching...) Camping is in grassy (not so level) field with some sparse trees - no sand, gravel or asphalt slabs anywhere!
Reserved dates: May 23, 24, 25, 26
This place is highly casual and folks just wander in and set up camp. It would be nice to have someone get there a day early. Please let me know if you are planning on attending. Parking takes some planning and we need to know if you're coming as space is limited. Camping fees are yet to be determined but will be approximately $15 per night (cash and check only).
Area 33 - more farm-less park.
33 Mt Adams Rd.
Owners:Zoe and Gerald Wood
Directions: From Hwy 141 North bound - Mt Adams Hwy - Bear right at Chevron Station (road splits) in town and go about 1/4 mile across creek. fair warning - town is hard to recognize - a small market or two - that's all. This intersection is near the County campground
- Left at 4-way intersection - look for sign to park, go about 300 yards down driveway
- Right at sign to Hollenbeck park
- Left at Green Gates - go down somewhat bumpy road - sometimes gravel
- Drive down old runway 1900 ft (see hanger on left) -at the end of the runway cross irrigation ditch.
- Camping to the left - we get the area with the fire pit and picnic table.. Please be careful about water spigots.
Just go ahead and park. One of the owners will come by on a small motorbike to collect. They do not take plastic! Checks OK.
Dumping: there is no dump station here - but the County park - seen on map quest link does have a dump station. You may dump "not too gray" water out of the way. Don’t ask - don’t tell.
This place is not in any phone book and the directions are kinda like a treasure hunt. The owners work at day jobs and do not advertise. Some portion of this land is a working farm.
here's a mapquest map

Meals: Let's keep it simple. We will bring the big stove, cooking gear and the box of paper goods - but we want to be on holiday and would like some help. Assistance with scullery work and a brave person to take on Sunday night would be lovely. If no one wants to commit to Sunday dinner, I guess it's everyone for themselves. Our cooking gear is available to use.
Please keep in mind that facilities are limited and so we need to keep clean up really simple. I'll edit this post with food additions as we go along - please check back here. Please sign up with your contributions via PM.
Friday night: falafel fixins, fresh artichokes w/ lemon butter (we will bring).
Good additions would be: a reasonable number of deserts, some munchie veggies and salad. Falafel is a veggie affair - so if you can't live w/o meat bring some (pre)grilled meat bits (sandwich size) and enough to share. You are responsible for your own drinks. Please sign up via PM and I'll edit this post with additions as we go along.
Janet - falafel fixins, pita bread feta & condiments
Gary - artichokes w/ lemon butter
L&C Woogie - large vegetable salad
Kinscher - Homemade hummas and veggies and other things to dip
64lawncondo - greek dips w/ veggies
caddygrn - dessert-like product maybe cookies
Jordandvm - dessert
----
Saturday night: BYOM BBQ & potluck Bring your own meat to BBQ and a side, salad or desert to share. You are responsible for your own drinks.

woops, sorry i was confused...
ignore my earlier post.
this is that place with the really bad flesheating fleas and skin parasites and sink holes, right?
i just checked and not only are the bugs back, but the area has been declared a superfund toxic clean up site.
so along with the bugs and toxins and sinkholes, 300+ others will be there...
the n.a.w.d.a.o.f.s.d.** is having they annual convention there that week.
pass this on, don't let others be miserable too!
cheers

We'll be there. We'll make sure we get out shots first. We're having the Bambi fumigated next week. If anyone want to know K-mart is haveing a big sale on netting. Just a minute, let me adjust my antennae.

I promise I'll be calm this time. I have new medication. My wife is on some really cool stuff.

Just checked with our friends at Trout Lake. Bigfoot has been seen wandering around and carrying off small mammels. They're concerned that He's early this year and may portend a serious problem this spring. Also seeing fast moving lights, in formation, over the mountain. hmmmmmmmm

Hello out down there,
Save a landing spot for us, also have a homing beacon at the end of
the runway. What's the frequency? We're bringing our UAL.

P.S. Great logo, our compliments to the designer.

2aireshuman, Howdy, if you can still find the 6 pages of 6 point type earlly Greek and/or Roman word document that came folded up in a 1 1/2"x3/4'x1/4" size at the bottom of the package. Then look on page 3 about half the way down the page you will find a explanation and warning related to this condition. The "fairy dust" may during early spring develope a exagerated reaction to the alteration of the position of the moon. This alteration may cause a sudden rise in the hormone commonly referred to as testosterine(sp), I'm only an artist, to continue. This may cause a sudden rise in the palpations of the heart and certain lightheadness. Also a lack of general common sense may be a side affect in certain persons who still have a age ranging from 14 to 50. Other individuals may experience an lightheadedness. If any of these conditions develope take two asperin and call your doctor imediately. Some may find a short time relief by placing the glowing brown powdery substance in their right front pocket. If this happens don't call your doctor.

Janet,
Would you put us down as tentative but probable. I will be able to provide confirmation on Tuesday of next week.
Donna has arranged for the Friday and Monday off. I had an appointment on Tuesday to confirm some test dates that were set up for May 20th. I'll not be able to travel for a two week period after so after seeing this thread today I requested that they move me to the June 2nd date. They will confirm back by Tuesday if the change can be done and she seemed reasonably comfortable that it could.
If I understand correctly it's about a six to seven hour drive from Blaine, WA (we live 15 minutes north) so we'll head down early Friday morning. We will head home Monday morning.
How rugged is the road in? Would my fairly low '57 be okay or should we use the truck?
We are looking forward to meeting all you folks. We are Forums Rally virgins.
Thanks for setting this up Janet and Gary.

barry...
assuming the bridge isn't washed out and large logs scattered on the road again this year...
the road way is paved to their property, then groomed gravel (200 yards) and old air-strip (200 yards) to the camping area.
the camping is in a grass field mowed b4 we arrive.
there is a low shoulder into the field from the road, but barely noticeable.
IF you opt to come with the pontiac (which we'd ALL wanna see) and after inspecting you think it is too low...
any one of us with trucks could hookup n tow your trailer, the last 100 ft to a cozy spot...
that is if the sink holes, broken glass, abandon waste barrels and dead animal carcasses aren't scattered around again
cheers
