LPG Tank sensors

Hi Folks,

We have a 78 Excella 500 with a functioning Solid State Controller with an LPG tang level indicator for each tank. My manuals show B+ 12 v wiring to each tank so I'm assuming that there should be some type of variable resistor at the tanks, either weight or level, but the books do not show anything. What's missing. Prior to my purchase the tanks were reinspected and fitted with OPD valves.

Best Regards

I think you may have lost your sensors when they changed the valves, unless they have a separate threaded bung with a sensor in it.

on my 94 the tanks had floats in them. i believe the rheostat is in the gauge in the top of the float where the wires connect.

Yep if they put an OPD valve on it there is no sensor. I am facing that same problem. I have a nice float gage on my tanks and they will have to come off for the tanks to be filled.

You will have to buy new tanks with a double bung on them. One is for the valve and one is for the gage.

So then are replacement tanks available which have the floats or are there floats available?

They are readily available, but there is a $60 (for 30# tanks) premium for the gauges over the base price. See 30 Lb. (7.1 Gallon) Vertical Aluminum LP Tank
