I feel the WBCCI was and is mainly designed for folks to gather together and travel - like S Africa to Egypt, or across Canada - or "follow the Lewis and Clark trail" --- and if you are interested in any of these style trips, the WBCCI makes good $sense/cents$.
That said, rallies appear to be some activity designed outside of the original intent of the WBCCI -- and they don't really have a clue as to how to have one (if they did, membership would not show the decline).
By far my best outing with my Airstream (group outing) was with the folks from this forum than gathered in N New Mexico a while back. I'm looking forward to attending again (if they'll have this 'ole Texan return)..
No, I don't think I'll renew my membership next year when it expires.
If you thought the NM forum rally was fun...you ought to try a Vintage Airstream Club rally sometime! You don't have to have an 25 year old trailer...just an appreciation of them!
How does the VAC feel about people who are officially paid "Friends" of VAC, but not WBCCI members, showing up at VAC rallies? Everything I've seen seems to suggest a WBCCI number is expected. I won't have a WBCCI number on my trailer, but I'd like to drop in on a VAC event someday just for the great networking & information.
Actually, to push my luck a bit further: I wish VAC was not an intra-club of WBCCI but simply a stand-alone organization. I haven't yet seen the WBCCI value but I do see the VAC value for vintage trailer owners. I have sent in my dues to VAC just so I can continue to receive the Vintage Advantage newsletter.

But, the VAC is an Intra-Group of the WBCCI. As a friend or non-WBCCI member, you may attend one rally as a guest. But for insurance purposes, you need to join before attending your second rally.

After you've attended a vintage rally...you may see the value of becoming a full-fledged member
We find that since there is an active and growing VAC group here, we all take advantage of the local WBCCI gatherings as "mini-rallies" and join in, between "the big one" we have in August each year. By our "bringing our own crowd" we bring the "fun" element to the WBCCI rallies too!
I would have to agree with the National ralleys being off the beaten path. I was a resident of Rapid City, South Dakota and witnessed 2 International rallies and both took place in the boonies outside Rapid City, with no trees or shade to be had within a mile. it was in a dry dusty field.
About the member at large Wha if you don't have a unit close to you. I ahve noticed that WY has one but maybe 300 miles away. Could I join a closer unit, say one out of Denver. Please bear with me as I am new to the Airstream, and don't even own one yet. Looking thou.
You can be a full member of any unit. You do not have to belong to a unit that is in your state. We have full members that live in Vermont, and associate members that live in the region our unit draws from. Your main unit is the one that you pay your international dues thru, can vote on international issues thru and get membership counted in for yearly membership totals. You can be an associate member with any unit. An associate cannot vote, or hold office in the associate unit. This goes for Memeber at Large too.
Keep looking your Airstream will find you soon

It certainly is interesting. Looking at the dates I am reading backwards and stopped somewhere in 2002, there appears to be two histories in the WBCCI. In all this time we are still right in the same place. Scarey.
