I just sent this link: www.savewally.org to my own unit officers along with a nice e-mail voicing my opinion about the vote. One member was unaware of this vote entirely and extremely interested to hear about it.
Good job!
Here is what I sent - feel free to borrow for your own use:
Quote:
I encourage you to vote against the proposed name change at International this year for a number of reasons:
The WBCCI has a long and rich history that should be honored - not discarded.
The license agreement that WBCCI will be required to enter into with THOR removes autonomous control of the organization from it's officers, directors and the members.
Thor will have control over use of the name Airstream, all logos associated with the club name and even approval rights of items like tee shirts, rally names and location. Read the agreement - it's bad for the club. Thor's marketing department does not value owners opinions or support - but rather is interested in financial gain from the use of the name Airstream. What would happen to the club if Thor sells the portion of the company that makes Airstreams? Who would gain control? Can we risk this?
The financial cost associated with this name change is a waste of members funds. Every scrap of advertising and logo would have to be redesigned. Much time would be wasted as well. Many volunteer hours would be spent redoing newsletter mastheads, websites and other items. If the WBCCI changes it's name to include the word AIRSTREAM, will they be required to sign over the ownership of their Web address to Thor? This has already happened to many other entities.
The rich heritage and independent spark of the organization would be forgotten with the stoke of a pen. The WBCCI would simply be another corporate owners club. Surely we can do better.
When you are choosing how to cast votes at International ask yourself what the will of your members is and then ask yourself.... what would Wally do?

Just to add to what Janet said, yes someone in OUR unit wasn't aware of the name change - despite it having been mentioned in previous newsletters at least twice, the new logo printed there, and last month there was an article on the front page alerting members that they should start thinking about how they wanted to vote!
Just goes to show, some folks you can't tell them too many times!
Good job guys, this is just what I was talking about when I said you need a plan of action to make anything happen!

Janet,
Thank you for this and I would be happy to put this up on the site as a sample letter that could be sent in response to the vote. Pass or fail, we are going to continue to fight on Wally's behalf. Like the last sentense in your mesage states, "What would Wally do?"

well this thread and link will draw some attention.....
the site looks great......
someone has been at work....kudos
just what ya needed....
a place to recruit and plead the case....
along with the posts on the wbcci website....
what a healthy way to deal with the issue....
one question.......
did anyone get permission from the wbcci to alter their trademark, logos, wally's image and so on?
i care not one bit, but wonder if those wanting to preserve the name, heritage and so on........
have received permission for the alterations of the club logo, wally image....and so on.
perhaps it isn't needed....any one know?
it is an honest question....and not intended to distract from the effort.
cheers

I saw that you posted a notice on the Yahoo Airstream List. Have you posted on the Vintage Airstream List and the WBCCI forums also?

Yes!
There is already a post about SaveWally on the WBCCI Forum: ( http://www.wbcci.org/Forum/viewmessa...m=13&Topic=163).
And I just posted something to the Vintage Airstream List. Watch your email inbox.
I have been told that Hunter's List (of which I am not a member) may also have already been informed.

That is cool! Send them a message telling them of your intentions as well. Too bad I can't get you a SaveWally sticker in time to pop that in your envelope also...

Thanks Janet. And wasn't it you who coined the phrase, "What would Wally do?" I remember the post, do you?

Thanks Roger, Stephanie and Jamie. Today has been an exciting day. The Save Wally team has worked endless hours in research and making the site top notch. They did a remarkable job. I believe their level of committment and involvement in the WBCCI is now well documented. No attention to detail and accuracy has been spared. Congratulations, Buttercup, Leo, and Joe, and thank you. You have accomplished something to be very proud of. But the work does not end now and we could use your help. If you would like to help us in contacting other members within the club to make them aware of the name change issue and how their vote can make a difference go right over and sign up to become a supporter or a volunteer. Tell your friends where to find us. Together we can be heard.

Well Done - Bravo
BIG FAT HUGS AND KUDOS to LEO JOE & TIM (Kimber too not sure which is the better half) and of course Carol.....and all the others who gave what they could big or small - to take a bonified interest beyond just "camping" and look at the Clubs organization - and what has sustained it for 50 years and hopefully with more efforts by everyone - at least another 50 years.
It will be a sad day if we ever get caught "sleeping" again.....
