S/O problems - 2005 Classic??

What problems do S/O have? water leaks, air leaks, ect.??

We have had our 01 s/o since 03, and have experienced no problems

the only 'problem' with our slide was finding/configuring an 8 passenger vehicle capable of the fully loaded coaches tongue weight... ~1400lbs

We've had ours going on 3 years and no problems. Moving the slide in after a heavy rain can sometimes bring in a little water that may have collected on the top of the slide, but that is all. It has a very tight seal...much more so than the slide on my previous SOB 5er. I keep it conditioned with silicone about twice a year.

This will be our 5th season with our slide. No issues. The water issue as noted above is a minor one, but something we look out for after a blowing rain when retracting the slide. I also silicone the seals about twice a year.

The axiom you drill into your head, you only activate the slide after the stabilizers are down.

We have a 2004 30' S/O and to date have had no problems. Since new we have been on the road for 6 - 8 months per year and with the exception of tire failures have not had problems with our Airstream. As for the water after a rain, we carry a small squeege on a three foot handle which serves to remove the water and clean the top of the slide before retracting. Several suggestions for S/O owners:
1) Always level in both directions before moving the slide.
2) Always have the stabilizer jacks down before moving.
3) Lube the seal often with a good UV protectorant.
4) Always check for electrical hook ups, trees and picnic tables before extending.
5) Go under the slide and drop the access door to the manual extension mechanism and practice the procedure at least once. Chances are the day you have a slide failure it will be raining and you may not have all the tools you need.

If you are seeking information about the slide out trailers to make a purchase decision just be aware of the extra weight the slide adds to your unit which will reduce your useful load. As I said we have had no problems with ours and enjoy the extra room the slide provides for our travel needs but extra weight is an issue.

We have an early slide unit but it seems to work fine. When closed its nice and even and when open against the wall nothing seems to flex or indicate a problem is occuring. It is heavy though. You will definately notice the tongue weight. With a properly set up vehicle large enough to handle it you should have a good experience.

Addendum: Has anyone a suggestion for duster or squeegee for the top of the slide once it is in, so as not to bring in dirt/ dust that would soil the mouse fur?

2air called it mouse fur too.. LOL

I just replaced all the mouse fur in my trailer.. talk about a big job! Better to keep it clean!
