Insurance Coverage

Greetings all - Getting ready to pick up our 2016 AS GT EXT in 2 weeks. Our first owned RV since our VW Campmobile back in the early 80's!

We are weighing insurance options. Our vehicles are covered by State Farm: they don't offer 'replacement' coverage for an RV, but have higher PI etc coverage than Good Sam (w/replacement RV coverage). [Yikes - just finished reading the staged accidents thread!]

I'd be very interested in what types of coverage works best for you and why.

Thanks in advance..
an AS newbie,
-Robert

I'm insured through Progressive, an agreed-value policy with a limit of the actual purchase price of my Interstate, and about $3000 for contents— anything not bolted down is contents, anything installed is part of the van. So if you make any major mods after purchase, such as upgrading the solar panels, don't forget to revise your insurance coverage accordingly to reflect at least the price of the added materials.

My liability coverage limit is about equal to my total net worth, which is the only sane way to do it given the litigious nature of people nowadays.

Premiums are paid annually, and are roughly 1% of the total purchase price of the RV per year, compared to my toad which costs about 5% of the purchase price per year to insure with the same liability limits.

Insurance varies by state, so take anything you read here with a grain of salt. What works best in one responder's domicile state may not be the best in yours, even with the same nationwide company. We can help to steer you in the right direction, but that's no substitute for getting your own quotes.

In another recent insurance related thread, someone recommended Ron Jarvie of Overland Insurance. He specializes in RV coverage. I liked the attention he gave to my questions and he became my agent. 480-994-9584.
