Air Bags Worth It?

Is air suspension on the new AI a valuable option?

As much as they want for it I would consider it valuable.

Sort of depends if anyone plans to ride in the rear as on the 8/9 psgr AIs, the rear seating tends to launch riders into low earth orbit.

I take delivery of my 2017 Grand Tour with VB Air Suspension next week and will report back on them. I wanted them more for leveling and ride quality than I was concerned with people sitting in the back not bouncing around.

For me yes. I have over 20K miles on my '16 with VB-Air. Improves the ride, but also, I use it regularly to fine tune leveling at campgrounds and have on more than one occasion had to use the AIr suspension to raise the rear when backing into a step incline to avoid dragging. Wouldn't have the van without it after living with it.

Yes for me too. But I don't have VB-Air system. Installed the Dunlop Auxiliary airbag system to rear axle. It also improved the ride a bit, but more important gave me the ability to adjust the height of the rear end for same reasons cited by Mcrider above.

Thanks for your useful response. Does the system provide side-to-side leveling as well as front-to-back?

The VB does not. Just front-to-back.

Yes - I installed an AirLift compressor with remote control so I can adjust pressure on each side. I can also adjust ride height while moving which the VB-Air system won't do unless you bypass the parking brake interlock.

My 2017 was delivered yesterday. VB Air System is non-responsive. Left message for out-of-state dealer and Airstream. Let the games begin...

Make sure you have the parking brake set and key on.

Thank you for the tip! I received the same response from my dealer, Airstream and VB Air after reaching out to them. I've been pleased with the response time from everyone. Unfortunately, the break was not the culprit. My dealer agreed with me that oose fuses often cause issues like mine and it becomes necessary to tighten the metal contacts within the fuse box and/or apply dielectric grease to the fuse for proper connection. So far, the system is working great!

Curious to know if the vehicle is essentially disabled when the VB Air Suspension is out of action?

The vehicle is not disabled in any way when the VB Air system is not working.

The air bags still have air pressure in then, but without power the pressure can't be adjusted. The only thing that could cause problems is an actual leak in the air bags.

Yes, that's why I asked, because I know of one Advanced RV that had to be loaded onto a low loader when one airbag failed. Probably the risk you take with any air suspension.
