KerryBlues
WE have two Kerry Blues named Mulligan & Callahan. They go everywhere
with us and are very well trained thanks to John. Terriers have a mind of
their own and it is usually on their terms but these guys are great. They
are brothers and five years old. The nice thing about them is that they
don't shed or smell (well sometimes smell) Ha! We do use a lot of towels
in the Bambi, on the floor and we cover the seats. It sure gets you off
your duff to walk them morning, noon and night. Happy Trails John & Betty

This is Penny(shep mix) and Charlie (terrier mix). Both were adopted from one of the local shelters. Charlie is about 2 1/2 and Penny is about 14 1/2.
Penny has gone with us on nearly every trip in both the Bambi and the Safari.
This is Charlie's first camping trip next weekend. He's been getting adjusted to the Safari these past few months.
Penny although she's slightly territorial when other dogs or animals go by, she's pretty laid back. Looks at Charlie and thinks he's nuts. Charlie's shelter name was "Stud", which we found out why when we got him home. He dislike males. Growls, barks, etc. He tolorates me in his house. Put a female in front of him and not a wimper or peep. Follows Brandi everywhere, until she goes, then for some reason I'm fairly useful to hang with. Every neighbor in the neigborhood same thing. Husband, bark growl, etc, wife, happy as a clam.
....and yes, that's Penny in Grandma's SOB, looking at a chipmunk that is taunting her at a State Forest campground in Picture Rock National Lakeshore in the U.P.

Airstream Animals
Meet Maggie the Doberman-Pit-Weiler and Dora the Poodle Something; both dogs of dubious origins, but wonderful Airstream canines none the less.

We take our cats, Delmar (or "D" as we call him) and Laurel, if we're going to be gone longer than 4-5 days. Took them with us to Las Vegas last year, and they did great! We lowered the back seat in the truck, put up some plastic mesh between the front and rear seats, and they had the whole back area to wander around it.

We travel w/our 2 Eskies Yogi & Booboo. Yogi's the larger of the 2; she "likes the picnic basket too much. We also have our rescued Samoyed, Snow, who thinks an open truck door means it is time to go camping.
Sometimes we take our 2 Maine Coon cats, Ralph & Alice on longer trips, but for weekends they prefer to stay home

Spoiled Boston Terrier
We travel with our Boston Terrier (so far every trip we've taken). She travels well in our TV. But when we hit the CG, all eyes are out for squirrels! Of course, with all this energetic hunting experience, once evening falls, she's all tuckered out in our bed taking up the choice spot thinking she's a human! She rules the roost!

Unfortuanately, Baby, our now 17 year old Siamese, passed away this morning from what appears to have been stomache cancer. He started having difficulty moving around, and finally could not move at all. I stayed up all night last night with him last night. He passed away about 8 this morning.
Be sure to pet your dog (or cat) before you go to bed at night, you never know if your best friend will be there in the morning to greet you.

unconditional love
Our pets give us some much love on any day and the memories are gold.
I feel your pain today as we are losing our 16+ yr old Lab. She has never camped with us. She loved to ride in the car and was always in the area we were in on the farm. She would follow the tractor anywhere just to be with us. We are certainly going to miss her.
Our 8 yr old yorkie was diagnosed last week with heart and kidney problems. the loss of him would be like losing our right arm as he has not been away from us since we got him . the yorkie has traveled with us from Cal to Fla and Canada to Mexico. He loves to go and thinks that a day without a car ride is a bad day.
Take peace that baby was not alone at the end.

We are sorry to hear of your loss. Everyday I hug our Weimer, Wally, (going on twelve, slowing down, and very arthritic) and thank him for being such a good and faithful friend, and then I look him in the eyes and tell him that he is a GREAT dog. Our day is just not complete without this little love time. ~G

Thank you folks for your kind words, they are appreciated more than you know. Baby was interred late this morning, and we got a small stone marker for him. The pups are looking all over the house for him, and can't understand where he is. I hope it is a very long time before they find out.

A Cat's Prayer
Author: Unknown
A Pets Prayer
If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then, you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
Don't let your grief stay your hand,
For this day more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years,
What is to come can hold no fear.
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you'll see it is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve it should be you who this thing decides to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold tears.
SMILE, FOR WE WALKED TOGETHER FOR AWHILE.

Another loss
Our "traveling cat" Sidney Cricket's ashes are now in a small oak box on the coffee table. At about 17, he far exceeded the vet's estimated life span when he was diagnosed with diabetes about 5 years ago. He seemed to understand that the, sometimes painful, insulin shots were part of his life.
He hated to travel, but we had to take him with us for his shots. He cried softly while moving, but he really liked being in the trailer with us when it stood still.
He couldn't quite cope with his last diabetic crash, though, and slowly wound down until he could only walk a few feet before resting. He slept most of his last night tight against me, but when I found him laying in the litter box in the morning, I knew that he deserved to go with more dignity than that.
He was the best of friends from the time we found him at 2 to 3 years old, starving along the highway, and eating crickets under a street light.

John,
We are still hurting, and cookie is still looking for baby. We buried him in the back yard and we have a stepping stone for him with a dragon fly on it. I feel your loss also. But I know they are in a better palce.

John, you have my condolences as well. Animals we have belonged to for so long become one of the family, and the loss of one can be as wrenching as losing a son or daughter. In some ways it is even worse, because we can't explain to them why they are suffering, as we could a human.

We travel with our 4 birds, a cat, and our dog. We just got back from a trip that was our Macaw's maiden voyage, and he did great. He wasn't loud enough to disturb anyone, and was asleep as dark set in. For short trips the birds and the dog ride in the excursion, and the cat relaxes in the trailer. Longer trips will see two of the birds giving company to the cat. They all get along great, and it's always fun to be with them.

While at a rod run this weekend folks were there in an SOB MH with a 11 month old cat named Whiskers. Great little guy and he got a ton of attention as he sat at the door to their trailer beside his basket, leash on, and any bug within reach was an instant and much enjoyed snack. Unfortunately late on Saturday night they were out with a flashlight trying to find the little guy and had many of us out as well. No bell, no tattoo, just a collar and leash. Yes, a happy ending, he was snuggled far up under the dash all along, but they learned a lesson. Make sure you little furball can be heard if not seen, has proper ID somewhere and preferably permanent, and you know all the rest. I know my wife and others spent quite some time out in the dark with flashlights trying to find the little guy and several of them almost picked up a baby skunk. Now THAT would have been interesting.....
