Hello...newbie here...question

Hello there..just joining the amazing Airstream world here, and have a question. I have just purchased (although it has not arrived yet) a 2005 Safari 30 ft LS custom built. I am planning on living in this. My question is..I have 2 cats...and am starting to wonder if I've made a good decision about this. They are use to living in a 1300 sq ft home, so I'm wondering if anyone else has been through this situation. One is a complete indoor cat, and the other is semi outdoors...although I have hesitations about letting her out where I'm situating the trailer. Thanks for any replies!

A big welcome to the Forums; congratulations oyour new Airstream. We have not had any cats in our Airstreams, but I been around cats from childhood. Cats love little small places to get into. They will probably be more comfortable in the Airstream than you will.

Hi...thanks Moosetags and Max/Georgia....I will check out the forums for answers. I'm hoping you're right Moosetags...I'm thinking you are as my second cat was an adopted stray, and the first year she practically lived underneath my bed.

My wife has a persian that she loves, and, accordingly, the cat travels with us and the rest of the crew. See my sig for the list. The cat travels in the trailer when we are towing. He will find a cubby hole and relax. We've tried him in the TV, and he just can't stand it.

While we are at a RV park the cat likes to come outside with us. We learned on our first trip with him that he still likes to roam, and is ambivalent to his surroundings. It's another story, but the result was that we now put him into a harness and leash. The leash is tied to a brick, and he no longer roams. He can still get around, but doesn't get far with that brick.

If your cats have traveled before, they should do fine. Some cats (my current one, for example) hates to travel. He stays home. It was just too stressful on him. Remember, they are just like us ~ they need to have room to play and exercise and get some fresh air. If you are afraid they will run off, you can try the leash thing... some cats do fine, mine can get out of one very easy...no matter how tight! You can also get one of those pet buggys and take them for a ride so they can feel secure but get fresh air.

Be sure if you leave them in the Airstream they have airconditioning in the summer, or windows open... just like in the car.

If your cats are older you may find they will adapt easily as they sleep quite a bit more.
