Tow mirror extensions?
OK, this is a lame question, but. Are the tow mirror extensions that cost over a hundred bucks on Amazon worth the price vs the forty dollar plastic ones?
Thanks
Mike

I got the JR mirrors and while a little pricey, can confirm that they worked well on a recent 2500 mile trip. Once the adjustment are set they clip on and off in seconds and hold the adjustment when reinstalled.

extn mirrors
We tried several others, and the JR made in England are the only ones worth having.

Thanks for the feedback. I just ordered the JRs to replace the older plastic slip ons that have a broken clip.

Mike, do not know what you are have for a TV but my Milenco's that are sold in North America by JR were much more stable after I shortened the arms by 5 inches. That they unnecessarily extended out so far from the vehicle made me a bit nervous. I mount mine on the bottom lip of the OEM mirrors because there is not enough room at the top. At stops I always give the mounting screws a twist just in case they have loosened up.

The JR mirrors are very good mirrors. My only complaint is that the little rubber pad comes off sometimes. I once lost it and was scrambling to find it. After not finding it I subbed it out with a wide elastic. I did the job until I found it again. On another trip my son attached the mirror and I didn't double check it so it wasn't as tight as I would have liked. It was in for service that day and as I was leaving a powerful thunderstorm came up. Shortly thereafter the mirror flew off. I thought it was a goner, but it was actually completely unscathed.

The best mirrors for towing that I have found are McKesh mirrors. I don't know if they are still made, but you can find them on Ebay. Easy on and off, no vibration, well made. Mine were made in 1989 and are still flawless.

These are very solid mirrors -- I owned a pair 20 years ago. A Google search indicates that they are still available new for around $150. The only negative I found back in the day was that the white webbing strap would get dirty and surface rust appeared on the chromed strap crank but these did not affect the beauty of their operation.

I have a brand new (used once) pair of Milenco Aeros.... If anybody needs some let me know? I don't need them for my current truck but, they work great. Pm me if you're interested.
Mark,
The path not taken is the one I take.

We bought our McKesh mirrors from Hensley back in 2008. They are still selling them here:

Once I learned how to tighten the screws at the bottom of each mirror to lock in the adjustment, they've been great. A little block of foam between the mounting strap and the vehicle door stops them from "singing."

The "singing" noise is a problem if you can't tighten the wing nuts sufficiently - which at my advanced age is an issue. The foam block is a great idea - thanks!

The "singing" noise comes from not being able to tighten the wing nuts adequately, which at my age can be an issue. The foam is a great and simple solution - thanks!
