Hmmmm<<<>> What do I do.? What ever I want too. I'm retired also. As I have heard so often "Poorly Paid Commercial Tourist" Over The Road Truck Driver for 45 yrs. Now for excitement and instead of walking with the old folks at the mall everyday. I persuded my passion which is Small Engines ,like the generator some of you carry to charge your batteries when boondocking.
My lovely wife however is not retired and works part-time at a retirement home as a house-keeper/laundry person. We, like "pilgram" could not wait so we bought at the end of the camping season,its here and I can work on it to make it "OURS".
You know what the really neat thing is? The fact that no matter what your status in life is, we are "ALL AIRSTREAMERS." That's "PRICLESS"

Looking at some of these careers...wow what a menagerie!

I was a professional soldier until some minor ijuries, then a student, bartender, real estate sales, construction worker, appartment maintenance worker, dog trainer, (not in order....some overlaps). I am currently (last 19 years) a Regulator/Licensed Professional Soil Scientist and Public Health Sanitarian for the Wisconsin Departmetn of Natural Resources.

I haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up! I did like the student part. For now I have 4 elderly dogs to care for.

Combination of military and law enforcement over 38 years. Ready to retire from my LE job. My wife was a librarian for 28 years and is know a para legal doing arbitration. Hope to finally retire by next year.

I have been many things in my relatively few 37 years of life. The "professional" career I had was teaching history. My favorite job I had was landscaping as I love being outdoors and can barely stand to work inside in an office(just not for me, I feel closed in). My current job is my hardest and I believe will be the most fulfilling. I currently am a full time Mr. Mom( although I do occasionally build fences, decks, or do landscaping on the weekends, whenever there is no sporting event or scout event or family camping event, you get the idea), that's right I am the primary caregiver for our three children, never a moments rest. My wife and I always wanted one of us to stay at home and I made the sacrifice as my wife is an attorney and makes a LOT more than a school teacher. I taught school in a very rough school in inner city Memphis and I still say this whole mom thing is harder, if you do it right. I never realized how much there was to do to be a good stay at home mom or dad in my case. I also never realized the criticism I would get from people in general for being a man who stays at home, to which I normally respond,"it is the best thing for my family". So to all you moms and grandmoms who have been doing this for years I give you much respect because as soon as my youngest is in school full time I'm going back to the easy life and "work" for a living.

Woke up a little early to read through this thread the past hour-and-a-half, wondering "who are the Airstreamers?", and saw some quite interesting and quite honorable callings. My wife and I haven't been married long (8-years) and we are "sliding sideways" as I see it, looking to take on jobs we've never done before in order to find the right path.

We sold the last house in Dallas (five in the past four years which were renovated and sold at a profit), looked for property again in that city and in Corpus Christi where we've made an offer on a nice one (that is, in a neighborhood with fine potential) which, if we get it, we'll this time slowly make it more desirable. And find jobs where we can feel better about ourselves (meaning, lower pay). With the son on his own (USMC first lieutenant) we no longer had the need to stay in a big city. We've also traveled to Maine, to Idaho and eastern Washington this past month to look at what life in a colder climate might be like.

Buying the trailer meant we could go where we wanted when we wanted (to a point) and it certainly gives me a comforting sense of physical freedom when all else closes in.

Jobs? Well, I've more than I can count on two hands. Took one of those online psych tests the other evening and, hey, what a surprise, it entitled me as a, "Jack-of-All-Trades". We'll see what that can turn into.

It was a pleasure to read this thread, and, again, to write that A/S'ers are sure a great crowd in an online forum. Hope to meet some of you someday.

We have a greenhouse business, which we begin working at the first of February to open for the spring sales the end of April. We remain open until the first or second week of June. We also own a vegetable farm where we grow lots of different veggies that people from NW Indiana and the Chicagoland area come to pick their own. We have a farmstand for those that don't want to pick their own (like me!). That opens the third week of June and remains open until the end of October. That leaves the fall for our camping! I usually am able to get away (without my husband) for a few days in June to South Haven, Michigan where we have camped for the last 20 years. Kids are grown & I work at our business (I was fortunate to be a stay at home mom when they were small), so travel is limited to boondocking in the middle of a cornfield in LaPorte, IN where my family hunts. We're packing 6 people in the AS tonight for opening day tomorrow. Should be a fun night! My husband & I like to go out there w/o any of our kids & just have a quiet evening alone (4 kids--all at home--17 thru 23 --HELP ME!!). Love the AS!!

For the last 25 years my wife and I have owned and operated a off premise catering business. In that time we have catered everything from breakfast in bed to Katrina. Our record is 16,000 meals in 26 hrs. our largest single event was for 8,000. We also deliver box lunches for as few as 25 persons. Our exit strategy involves 10 acres on the outskirts of Memphis and our two Airstreams. We would love to find a nice, hard working, young couple to continue our business (one a chef and the other a combination sales pro/accountant).

My wife and I were USAF air transportation/Tech. Instructors and one time System Anaylst. I retired at twenty. Worked as facilities maintenance, now a Facilities Specialist/Project Manager with Pearson. I expect I will keep doing that as long as it is still fun to go to work Wife is with Radio Shack...and has a small weekend store (jewerly incense etc). JAck of all trades...master of none

I do work for a living, but this forum is becoming a major distraction.

I work for a Community College district in Southern California. I represent the District as an "owner's rep" for major construction projects. Basically, I build schools for a growing and deserving student population. I'm definitely not getting rich, but it is rewarding.

Wow, where to start, where to start.
I'm a Landscape Architect (parks, hotels schools shopping centers etc), after being a commercial beekeeper, after being a Registered Rep. Series 7 sort., after being an Agricultural Biologist after being a farm laborer, after a stint in the Army. Took about 40 years. My wife is a CNC programer, I guess I'm a bit A.D.D..

I've posted before, but change is on the horizon..
I currently work for a small-ish town Fire Dept. As such, we have to wear several hats. I'm an Engineer (Engine operator), Paramedic, Fire investigator/Peace Officer. I'm also on a Technical Rescue team.
Lots of fun and interesting stuff, but the grind of the medical calls takes a toll after 30 years.
I don't expect that I'll truly retire any time soon, but I most likely will retire from the FD in a year or two. I'm working toward a new "career" in finish carpentry, trying to get as much experience as possible and trying as many new things as I can. We'll see how it goes.

Although I actually retired from fulltime work back in 2005, since my wife still has 6 more years to go before she can retire I continue to do consulting work parttime as a "LEED-AP RCDD". I realize that everyone is already fully aware of what a LEED-AP RCDD does, but bear me out anyway while I clarify it a little.

The RCDD portion stands for "Registered Communications Distribution Designer" which is a designation from the Building Industry Consulting Services International - BICSI | advancing information transport systems and basically it means that I design the cabling layout for the computer and phone cabling in office buildings. This includes the communications/computer rooms and all the cabling behind the faceplates in the walls etc.

The LEED-AP portion is a designation from the US Green Building Council - www.usgbc.org and it is basically saying that the intent is to make sure the building design is energy efficient and environmentally friendly. A building that is designed in accordance with various standards can achieve LEED certification as a "Green Building". Note that in a modern office building, 50% of the energy used is used for Information Technology systems - computers, phones, servers, etc etc. There are lots of ways to be smart about energy in a new building and it can really pay off.

At any rate, in my spare time from everything else I am also restoring a '72 Volkswagen Beetle in my garage -- a work in progress... :-)

full hot breakfast morning 1 for 5000. Stuffed chicken breast with rice pilaf, green beans salad rolls and dessert for 6,000. Full hot breakfast morning 2. Table service on disposable for breakfast, table service on china for dinner.
