Hello all, I am in the process of a renovation and want to seal all my windows, primarily the upper windows that seem to be my problem. Any tips on accomplishing this, and also removing silicone that the previous owner sealed the windows shut with
The silicone will require a good bit of elbow grease to remove. Do a search for "remove silicone" on the forums, and you may find some suggested chemicals to aid the effort.
The windows are mounted in the moving frames with a little rubber seal that will have dried out and hardened by now. I tried to find a replacement for these and was unsuccessful, so trimmed them flush with the window frame, then ran a bead of vulkem at the interface of window frame to glass. The soft rubber gaskets that seal the moving frame to the stationary frame are still available from suppliers like Inland RV and Outofdoorsmart.com. Be sure to order the 3M gasket glue to glue the new seals in place.
