Broken window

We were traveling on some rough roads this afternoon, and when we got to our campsite, one of the side windows was broken. Shattered. Nothing left but the hardware, which fortunately had fallen in the channel. The trailer is less than 2 years old, and this is our sixth outing. My question is whether this is a warranty item or am I on the hook for replacement? Fortunately no rain in the forecast so won't be too big of a hassle to put plastic over the opening to get back. Will call Airstream Monday, but was wanting some input before hand Thanks, Mike

Bummer. Sorry to hear that.

Call you dealer for starters. It may or may not be a warranty issue (I would demand that of the dealer and the factory if the dealer balked) but they might argue it's not a workmanship or materials issue. Can't know until you call.

Sorry and good luck!

Broken window

After calming down a little went to look at the trailer and see if I could determine what had caused the window to break. Turns out someone shot it with a bob gun. There is a telltale dent where they missed the first time. This happened in either Kentucky or southern Indiana. Guess I need to report this to someone. Any ideas on what yo do?

My guess would be southern Indiana.
Reporting is useful and often required for insurance claims.
Sorry for your bad luck.

Window

I called the insurance company, USAA. Since I couldn't tell them where it happened, they said I didn't need a police report because we didn't know which police should report it. I called Airstream about a replacement window. I think thats going to be the easy part. They are even sending me a couple of the rivets to cover the bb mark. The problem is going to be the scratches the flying glass caused. A few are fairly deep. The only way the service guy knew to get rid of them was to replace the side of the trailer, all one piece on the model I have. We will wait and see what the insurance adjuster says. Seems silly to replace the whole thing for a few scratches and a bb mark, but it would be nice to have the trailer back to where it was.

It will never be the same. Leave it alone and call it a travel trophy. It won't stay new forever. Make up a story about coming under heavy fire in Kentucky and barely escaping with your life. Makes a dent seem somehow exciting.... It will not be your last oops!

My oops I can live with. It's other peoples needless acts of whatever you want to call it, I have a hard time with. The service guy said it would be around $4000 to replace the side.

Weigh that against the hike in premium you'll pay!
I'm with you about others inflictions, pisses me off!

I've thought about that and also the reduced price I can ask for if I decide to sell. I doubt the new owners will pay extra for the scratches. Maybe some clear finger nail polish will do the trick.

Scratches are it a huge bargaining tool. It's normal wear and tear.

Go enjoy the Airstream!

I am of the opinion that if you have insurance, and you have a legitimate claim, that's why you have insurance. A scratch down the side absolutely detracts from the value of your trailer if you choose to sell it. You'll look at it every time you look at the trailer & get ticked off! Just my two cents! (I think it happened in Kentucky! :-)

I am living with hail damage and damage I inflicted removing the "green" sticker...
If you use it, damage will happen...
