Here is exactly what we did when my pipes froze a few days ago:

1.) Turned the water off at the house and unscrewed the garden hose. If you wanted to, you could take it inside your house and put it in a bathtub of hot water to de-ice it.

2.) Got a bunch of rags and a few gallons of water together. Boiled the water in my electric kettle and then poured boiling water onto rags. I popped open the tail-gate section of the trailer, (outside back, where the plumbing is), and then wrapped all exposed copper pipes with boiling water rags. I did this continuously, boiling more water and rotating the rags for about 30 minutes.

3.) Went to hardware store and got some PVC pipes, some 90s, a couple of 45s, some joiners, plumbers primer/glue, pipe cutters, pipe insulators and a water faucet jacket. (About $40)

4.) Dug a trench in the yard from the back of my trailer to the outside faucet, joined the pipes until it reached. Let all the glue dry. Leveled the trenches. Covered the pipes with dirt and packed it down. (About 6" below ground level is good enough.)

5.) Turned my water on and took a nice, hot shower.

6.) Left my dang water taps dripping over night instead of allowing this to happen again!

Hope that helps someone.

Cheers
Jennifer

real ice

You think you froze? This is not snow….it is ice….10 to 12 inches thick. I still can't get out of my drive and Blanco Non Rally is out. You can see why I-35 was closed around this part of Texas. Aistreams in the barn with heaters on.
