floor's in
I only got a short weekend this holiday But I did manage to get the front floor back in and bolted down. Still need to add some rivets to the front body where I had to drill some out, reattach the belly pan and the banana wraps, then decide if I am going to complete the front interior...go camping...bring it home and tear the rear end out I can feel the pain of the long term projects, mine started in October '03, I only get about 2-3 days a month to work on it because I am on the road. If I can get it semi habitable I might be able to take it with me

Putting miles on a Harley
The latest concept in "company car": Husband is riding a 2005 Harley Roadglide this weekend for the dealership he works for. They have a rental program and each bike must have at least 500 miles before it can be rented.
Darn the bad luck the weather is perfect: upper 70s light cloud cover, light breeze. Grabbed the helmets and went. Our favorite kind of adventure-just go.
The bad news is that his bike was wrecked last week. The rider (friend at the dealership took it out for a test ride after performance work) has some horrible road rash. The bike looks pretty ugly. Sigh...

Did no work at all. Just fished. Max and I and the kids and grandsons camped out at the new place and played on the pond all day. BIG channel cat, crappie, and large mouth bass--surprised us because the pond doesn't look like much. Kept everyone busy all day, catching and releasing. Going back today for the first fish fry and to celebrate my new retirement. We plan to move the Airstream out tomorrow. For the first time since we got her, I'll breathe easier. Since this place has NO trees, unlike our current home which is covered with mature trees, she'll not be in danger of falling limbs and debris. However, until we remodel the barn for a taller door, she's at risk for hail. Crossing fingers. Happy Holiday everyone!

Porky, I didn't know you were so close! If I didn't already have the ribs ready to go, we'd come up and say hi!

What trailer?
Yep, I know it's slow -- I've got a part question that I won't raise until later Monday... I'm just back from a week in San Antone and spent Saturday and half of today catching up with yard and garden. Then it's off to pick up the 'Beluga' for the best half of the weekend!
Current project? I'm rebuilding the floor under the battery. Leaking in the previous compartment rotted out the floor and dropped the battery into the banana wrap -- musta been using heavy water.
Jim, did you see the pics on this bunkbed thread? Early, we can help you posting photos if you have a digital camera...

Drove over to St. Augustine beach in the afternoon and went wading along the beach. Traffic was not bad at all. We drove the backroads and hardly any traffic, almost scary. Beach was not crowded either. Might be different tommorrow and Monday though. Every campground we passed seem packed to the gills.

Weekend has been restful. Got a leak fixed in the A/S. Will be getting fridge thermostat fixed next week and all systems are go! Am hosting a dad and his 2 boys for a couple of weeks since his wife filed for divorce and kicked them ALL out. They are in my house, but if I'm out , they use the motorhome and they LOVE IT! Today we all are going to church to thank the Lord for all the grace we have received from Him, like our shiny big toys (and floating ones too.) Tomorrow...BBQ!!!

I must be in heaven. We're at the Hilton near ALCOA, Tennessee, just off of ALUMINUM Avenue. I can smell the heady fragrance of melted aluminum and raw Bauxite. We're having dinner on HALL Road, which I assume is named for the Hall process for making aluminum.
Two days and 1000 miles from home.
Tomorrow, hope to make it to Bat Cave, and 50 cent ice cream cones.

Just being in Tennessee is enough. I was born & raised there; God's country.
Oops, didn't mean to run off on a tangent. I believe you're in East TN. Try & make it up to the Cumberland Plateau in middle TN if your plans allow. Beautiful countryside, and one can see for miles.
Steal a towel for me...

Sturgis East
Yesterday was spent doing heavy duty gardening (tearing up a bed and infilling as much as fill dirt allowed), then went to see the broadcast of Prairie Home Companion (very cool).
Spent the day working on the trailer and listening to Roaring Thunder. Since we are down the street from the area's Harley dealership--and next to the highway to DC (rt. 66), our exit is a prime meeting place, something locals jokingly call "Sturgis East" (well, ok, there's little resemblance here to South Dakota, but folks here do get a kick out of the really wild leather setups that come into town). The loud rattle of engines kind of makes me think of the helicopters that were so much a part of the war in Vietnam and it really left me thinking today about the folk who fought in our wars.
It's been a good day--and to all of the veterans on line here--thank you!
Mary

John, that looks harder than working on an AS! What year is your house? Looks 'vintage'

Just back from a week at San Elijo State Beach so this weekend we're home and getting caught up and ready for the big trip to Oregon next month. This is our last beach trip till September, when the tourists go back home and the kids are back in school and the beach is again a peaceful place to camp...sort of! Looking forward to summer camping in Mammoth Lakes Ca and Oregon, which begins in three weeks....yipee!

Making reservations for next months long long adventure. It is a partial plan to get us to the most distant point where we then will meander without a schedule until we bump into our house.

Jim on the bunkbeds, we found pictures of one on vintage vacations. Vintage-vacations.com. Also there was an old link on this forum under 1971 sovereign. I had to go back over twelve months to view the link. Hope this helps. Thanks canoe stream for offering help on posting pictures. I am saving up for the digital camera that goes with my lens. With all the AS projects it might be a while. I guess I can take the pictures the old fashion way and scan them in.
