New utility trailer!
Has one here ever parted out an AS only to use the trailer part to make a utility trailer? This WAS a 1964 Safari...Ill have to redo the deck and reinforce the frame so that it will have some hauling capacity.

Just don't know why you would do this. By itself the frame is too flimsy to be much of a utility trailer. Are you planning to haul feathers?
Why don't you use the axle and build a new frame around it.

Don't know what you will decide on this but if scrapping is in the future.... If they are in good condition I could use the wheel wells for my trailer. If this is an acceptable idea let me know where/when to pick them up and what you want for the two of them. Thanks, Happy Trails, Ed

This reminds me of the story of the thief who broke into the home of a rich gun collector. When the burglar alarm went off he grabbed the first thing he saw, a $20,000 engraved Purdy shotgun, and ran off.
Later that night he took a hacksaw and cut off the barrel and stock then used the gun to stick up a convenience store. He got $37, a carton of cigarettes and 10 years in prison.

The po had removed the shell by unriveting it from the C-channel...lifted the shell onto another trailer and torqued it in a way that would have made it nearly impossible to be made right again...the door frame had even cracked from the new strain placed on it...several ares the exterior skin had creased...and the bottom of hte outside skin had several tears in it...not a pretty picture...

believe me..i had problems of guilt about doing this...and yes, I have a bunch of angle iron to stiffen this up...will mainly be used for getting building supplies, and hauling around garden tractors...

While I had been around my Airstream my entire life, I did not know much about its construction until I prepared to tow it home from my uncle's house. Of note, I was surprised to read that farmers are frequent visitors to RV junkyards because they are in constant need of hay trailers. They ALWAYS turned down Airstream frames because white-box trailer frames are inherently more substantial, and the only modifications necessary centered on how to keep the bales on the trailer.
It bothered me at first until I understood Airstreams, to keep weight down, are of a semi-monocoque construction while white-box travel trailers are built on a sturdy frame.
I personally think you will be come out ahead selling the frame/axles for scrap, and buying a utility trailer to do what's needed.

I am with TomW on this one. I have had more than one Airstream apart and the frames do not do well alone. I also have a frame that used to belong to a Coachmen 28' that burned to the floor, we stripped the floor off, added some framing and have one helluva 25' utility trailer. I have seen a bunch of popup trailers with the tops and tenting removed used for lighter duty utility trailers.

I've been wanting a small Bambi to gut & use as a toy hauler behind my classic MH. Just couldn't do it to a good AS. Plus the higher price of a smaller AS TT helped to stop my madness. Still might consider a Casita or a Burro painted silver.
