Does changing a good old 1958 Airstream interior hurt the value? I just don't like the blonde woodwork and would like to improve the cabinetry.
Anyone have any insight?

If the interior is in good shape, it would be a tragedy to destroy it. Original interiors are like virtue: once lost never regained. It would be better to sell this one to someone who will preserve it and find a gutted one to tinker with. Thats my opinion.

Thanks Rodney, I was afraid of that. There are a few things that need to be replaced but the bulk of it is there.

Thanks! The big sky shot on the front page is Cades Cove in Smokey Mountain National Park. The buffalo on that page is from Oklahoma. The eagles are from around the Mississippi river, the bulk of the whats left is from the Rocky mountains and desert south west.

IMHO Keep the original.

But, I have seen 2 approaches which enhance the value, or at least don't destroy the value. I have seen some masterful cabinetry using the original layout with beautiful woods and craftmanship. I have seen other 50s gutted and completely modernized with new lighting, floor layouts, mirror polished interiors etc. again the skill and craftsmanship is the key.

The bottom line though is this should be a labor of love. Whatever you do make sure you have fun. You probably won't get rich.

Why not post some pics of your 58 'stream interior and let us take a look! While I would be in favor of you keeping it original ~ most everyone personalizes their trailers a lot and I agree with Lumatic, so as long as the craftsmanship is excellent or better it should not hurt the value. You will likely never get back what you put into it either way. The thing that seems to influence the marketability afterwards is the layout and usability. But if you plan on keeping it... arrange things to your satisfaction.
