Model of Airstream

I am looking for an Airstream gift for my wife. I 6-12 inch model that could go on her desk. We already have 2 of the Hallmark ornaments but I am looking for something more detailed. Any ideas out there?

Why not get her the model of the first vintage Airstream, which is a collectors item.

They are hard to come by, and expect to pay at least $200.00 to $300.00 for one, if your lucky enough to find one.

The roof even comes off, so that you can easily see all the furniture in it, as well, as an example, of the reefer doors opening.

The entrance door opens, the jack works and the footstep can be extended as well.

They were made by Franklin mint.

I bought one of the first ones that were available.

You can see me holding it in the photo of me in our web site.

The only vintage model was made by Franklin mint, on a limited basis.

You can sometimes find them on E-bay.

They originally sold for $200.00, but I have seen them priced up tp $600.00.

How much to pay, I guess, depends on how bad you want one.

They are extremely well made.

At least for now, I don't wish to sell mine, since I want to modify it so that it has active clearance and tail lights.

That would make mine a real prize.

Yours is so old, I'll bet it needs new axles by now...do they make replacement Henschens for it?

I just picked one up at the WBCCI International Rally swap meet ~ wooohoo! The older gentleman had won it as a door prize at the Florida Sate Rally a couple of years ago and it hadn't even been opened...all the little pieces were in their original wrappers and double layered boxes. Pretty cool!

FWIW...there was one on ebay that just closed, no box...but a good price. $207.50

Yeah, Henschen axles are still available for the models, and my model has been sitting for so long that the rubber rods gave out.

The AC needs attention and the window gasket replacements are in order too.

But the paint job and furniture all look brand new.

Diecast.com (Cars mainly, but they are expanding... check it out)

Not original, but true to specs, 2 models- weathered and new. They sell Franklin Mint items, but I don't remember if the Airsteam models were produced there. Sorry, catalogue is at Hubbys shop.

Hope it helps!

I have one of the heavy, models with working rubber wheels - based on a 50's Flying Cloud from Pottery Barn. Discontinued years ago, but mine's in great shape. I'm looking for about what I spent, which I think was $50. Lemmie know if anybody's interested!

Did that a long time ago.

But I am having trouble with that $3000.00 hitch.
