Huge Hockey Fans with this forum family.
Unfortunately, the Blues have $25 Million in starting players on the injury reserve.
#1 Pick Erik Johnson was out before the season started
Andy McDonald broken leg and still out
Paul Kariya out for season with hip injury
Jay McKee out with broken finger
Eric Brewer out after herniated disc surgery
DJ King...out
Then we have the injuries to the goalies.
Legace slipped on Sarah Palin's rug, and then gets a concussion after that.
Mason has an appendectomy, hasn't been the same since.
Bishop called up and got injured.
I believe that the teams competing for the Stanley Cup will be Detroit and San Jose with my nod to win it all being the Wings.

I can feel your pain with the Blues.I picked Kariya and MacDonald in my hockey pool this year.Because of their injuries,I basically don't have a chance in the pool this year. They both had a great start.Too bad.

Any word on if Paul Kariya or Andy MacDonald will be back before the end of the season?

Kariya had season ending hip surgery last week. Could be a career ender, but it isn't known yet.
MacDonald is skating with the team this week on their trip to Canada. He likely won't play, but it will be soon.

I hope so! I'm a bit tired of the anonymous and personality-free Red Wings. I appreciate their style of play, and their expertness, but in a way, it's like admiring a length of extruded aluminum. The machinery that produced it is admirable, but it has no soul.

Detroit could use some positive news these days. Looking for Chelios (b. 1962!) and the Wings to sweep the Pens.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Then we have to listen to the commentators slober all over themselves about just how great the Red Wings are as they hook and obstruct their way to the championship.
I'll lose hope if the Pens lose tonight, but I was really hoping that they would be able to teach Hossa and anyone else looking to sell out a lesson.
My favorite team: anyone playing the Red Wings.

It's not hate I feel. That's too strong a word. It's just that they have been so consistently good, for so long, that anyone playing them seems like an underdog, and people like rooting for an underdog. It's amazing that they've been able to sustain these great teams in the post-lockout, salary cap era, when they get low draft picks year after year.
It's the anonymity that gets me. I watch a lot of hockey, and I could probably recognize 20 or 30 players if they were walking down the street, but I have no idea what Zetterburg looks like, or who they are. Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Osgood. Not a clue. After joining the Wings, it's like their personalities and identities were removed and stored away for later, when they retire.
Probably, you being from Michigan, you have some idea of who they are.

Laura,I don't hate the Wings either. If against almost any other US based team,I would be pulling for them. They are a great team and have no weaknesses. With that being said, they won against Pittsburgh last year and it would be nice for the Pens to win it now.
Besides,Sidney Crosby is from my neck of the woods.

Well sometimes people forget what the motivation for the wings were not too long ago, after a car accident hurting a couple of the players, which one was in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, they wanted to get the cup, and the cup they got. With everything going on in Detroit! I dont think getting the cup would hurt things! And as far as personalities for the players, trust me, they have personalities, Osgood is the quite one, but he rocks as player. Lidstrom is the same way, not a pushy type of person. However, Zetterberg has attitude, and wont hold back what he is thinking. I just think its so funny how people dont like the wings because they are good, im sorry, but its funny to me.
