Cast Iron Toys

Many years ago, my Father-in-law worked for the Kenton Hardware Company building Cast Iron toys. We have started a small collection of some of the toys that he may have touched.

My mother in law (approaching 98) has a small, cast iron Scottie that is a piggy bank.

She got it when she was 2 years old, and was given a penny for it for her birthday each year.

Did he make this kind of thing?

It could be a Kenton bank! I really don't know what all they made. They were in production from the late 1800's until 1952. There were cast iron toy foundries all over the U.S. So it's hard to know.

It would have been the right time period, then.

She was born and raised in Iowa, it undoubtedly was purchased in Iowa somewhere.

I love cast iron anything. . There's just something about it that calls to me.

I have a cast iron sleigh I bought in Galena a number of years ago....not an antique, tho, there was a foundry in those parts somewhere.

Happy hunting!
