New Radiator

Anyone have a radiator source for a 1979 Excella Motorhome? I need to locate one as quickly as possible. Measures 36" long by 20" wide. Part number would help if u know one! Help please !!!

We are on the road until the last week in July and I just found a small leak when we stopped after a couple hundred mile drive. It's on the top of the top tank but I can't actually see the surface of the tank-it's kind of behind the radiator mount hoop. Hoses are like new and there's no sign of loose clamps. There's dried coolant running down the fan side of the radiator on the driver side of the coach. Definite stain coming from the very top of the radiator. A small amount of stain on the front of the top tank also but very little.

One thing, I understand there's no point in running risk by trying Stop Leak; it would not probably reach a leak in this location anyway. I plan to keep traveling, check it frequently, and carry plenty of spare coolant.

The other thing is, do you know if a radiator shop can repair a tank leak?

Reason I ask, is that I can't find anyone's comments about a leak and repair in that location, it's always about core leaks.

Most leaks can be repaired. Quite often they are caused in these aging vehicles by erosion which can just be the tip of the iceberg. Sometimes they are mechanical fatigue. I just repaired a small crack around the inlet tube seam. Rest of the radiator looked fine. Worst case, the tanks can usually be removed and the core replaced. If you can't find an exact replacement you might find one that will work with a little modification to the radiator or mounting. You have to know what you are looking for from a performance standpoint. You can often add some cooling capacity.

A good radiator shop should be able to help you out.

The odds are a small weep like you're experiencing shouldn't be an issue for you. But the worst part is you will most likely have to remove the radiator to fix the problem and that's not exactly a fun task. If you have to have it repaired while on your trip be prepared for a several day stay while the radiator is being removed, repaired and reinstalled.

You best bet is to nurse it until you get home and you have time to do the repairs without a time crunch.

If you are going to "nurse" it home, you might want to replace the cap with a lower pressure cap like 7 psi.

Only thing worse than spending a couple days getting it fixed is dealing with a blowout in hot condition somewhere between Crawford junction and Homer Pass. 😤

Try a couple of teaspoons of ground black pepper. It worked for me with a similar leak got me home. Good luck
