New fuel injected 454

I,m replacing my '87 454 with a new engine (GM Replacement). I'm going to put Edelbrock electronic FI on the new engine. My problem is I need to know what year 454 to order, or the model number for the injected 454's of the 1990's until they stopped making them. Thanks forthe help.

Our 1987 Suburban had a fuel injected 454. It was the first year of fuel injection, and was for California-only trucks.

Thumbs up 7.4 or 8.1

The 7.4 ltr has the same block as the later 8.1.

If I was doing the swap I would go with the GM 8.1 crate engine.

Our 95 Burb had the 7.4. W3:73 RE. (with numerous mods for mpg)

When we got our 06 8.1 W4:10's I was concerned about poor mpg, BUT as it turned out even with the added displacement and taller gears it is averaging almost 4mpg better.

Just my take....

Good Luck with the project, keep us posted.
