EDL 1906 carb. needs mod!!!? for '81MH

Just been told that the idle arm on tne new carb needs to have an extension welded to it due to the idle up solenoid not being able to reach it to increase idle upon dash AC turn on or rapid deceleration. The new carb has one, but way too short. Has anyone come across this? I'll be calling Summit tech support to ask before I allow the mechanic to weld something to it.

Carefully reading recommendations from folks who have been there before helps you to avoid problems like that.
Quoting myself from a previous reply to your questions:
>>>You may also need part number EDL-1997, a 9.- small bracket for the vacuum delay.<<<

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply. The part you mention is for the EDL 1903 hot air choke. I got the 1906 electric choke which alot of people seem to prefer in these type of applications.

So, should I return the 1906 electric choke, or allow the mech to weld it longer? If I return, I can get the 1903 hot air choke with the EDL 1997throttle kicker bracket. I don't know how to resolve this dilemma!

the EDL-1997 bracket fits the EDL-1906.
I installed it myself.
How much do they want to weld that small extension? $15.-?

Peter,

I called Edelbrock and asked them if I could use the EDL 1997 throttle kicker bracket on the EDL 1906 electric choke carb. They said it does not work with it and cannot be done in that application, so I believed them. BUT, I believe YOU! So maybe I'll order the 1997 and have the mech put it on. I wonder how much he'll charge for installing the bracket. I know you said you had to drill a couple of small holes into it to install.

Theyu didn't tell me how much to weld, but they said it would be insignificant compared to how much this MH will cost me for the duaration

There are vaccuum and electric solenoids for the idle up. Mine is a vaccuum and the bracket fit perfectly. Tell em to weld the darn piece and be done with it.
(besides it will run just fine without it)
