So happy to read your thread and to know that some other 1962s are being saved. I find that period of trailer 58-63 to be the sexiest of all body types. I am somewhat bias due to my own 62, but just think they have very nice lines to them. That period still has the classic beauty of the 50's while embracing the modern times to come. As far as your neighbores across the way... I think you should charge them for the privilage of looking at your collection. I threaten to charge admission to Anna all the time... I can sell soviegner rotting wood too, maybe a donations box at the door.

ha! good idea!
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to mothball the '62 for a while, at least until the fall. I'm really trying to finish the 18 footer and my feathercraft boat for this season! My free time is not what it was when i started it!

OK, this has got to be some sort of record (20 MONTHS since my last post!!!)... BUT, I've decided to pick back up on the 62 globe trotter so I can finish it, and get it out of the barn to make room for my Liner project!
I went back and forth over and over and over about whether to give up and get rid of it, or restore it to sell. I decided to finish it up. I don't want to be one of those threads that gets through the tough stuff and then abandons it RIGHT as things start looking up!!
So, step 1, formulate a plan. Here it is! I've decided to do a lot of the same features in this as in my Liner... giving me more time to perfect my methods on cabinets, street side toilets, and aluminum lockers! I think we're even going to go with the same colors, trim, etc... making this a short version of his bigger brother. That will be the ultimate test of our colors.
Anyway, here's the plan:

Looks well laid out, just wondering whether your using a 4 ring cooktop as it's a graphic you have to hand. I've been looking into the SMEV and such combined cooktops/ sinks and thought it might work really well in the shorty's.

i like it! I wonder, though if the lack of an oven would affect resale value? I would be restoring it to sell, I think. Guess I could leave room for a microwave, if nothing else.
The price isn't really all that bad, when you consider that it includes the stove, sink, faucet and cover. That's about what it would cost to buy all that independently, and you save a ton of room with this set up.

No, the price isn't bad at all given all that is included.
Personally, I love my trailer's oven and wouldn't want to part with it. Microwaves just aren't the same. I'm not sure how others feel, so I don't know how it would affect resale.
SMEV has some units with ovens, but they're fairly expensive, and don't really gain you much space-savings. Interesting items to consider, anyway.

Airstream is the best disease. The fever escalates faster than you realize the illness is affecting you and then you are ill. You see airstreams everywhere or you are looking for them.
Best part the airstreamers on this forum who are always there to help! or encourage the disease.

Thanks for the offer, Steve! Do you have any pics of it? I think I still have the original princess somewhere around here. Gotta start digging through piles of stuff I haven't dug through in years! Literally!

no, I haven't forgotten her! I'm gearing up to get the interior walls in her this winter, in fact! In the meantime, I'm ALMOST done stripping it down. The plan is to do the interior (including the endcaps this time) out of Birch, in which case, these fiberglass turtle shells will have to go. I'm gonna save them until I get everything in, though. You NEVER know! Plus, the ease of painting Zolatone is awfully tempting, compared to sealing and finishing all that wood... but I'm up for a challenge.

getting restarted!
I finally found a free weekend day that WASN'T freezing in the barn, and decided to tackle the door. Here's a few close-ups of some of the problem areas:

... so while I was disassembling things, I decided to polish up the frame inside the door. I figured this would be easier now, rather than later...

... Next I sheared the new metal and used my brake to dress the edge and form the lip on the inside of the door...

Found something really cool on the back side of the door. It's like a little time capsule!

Interior panels in (well, 3 out of 4, anyway). I used the brake to dress the edge of the bottom panel on all 4 sides. I think it makes it look a lot more finished, particularly as I plan on leafing it polished aluminum.

I am amazed at how much more rigid the door feels now that everything is sealed up and riveted together. 48 years of bumping down the road had loosened things up significantly.
Next up, the door within a door. I went ahead and made the skin for it to get a jump start. Then I took the little kiddies for a tractor ride. Too nice not too!
