Thumbs up Resizing pictures

My digital camera is set on VGA for emailing pictures. For some reason 8 pictures I took for a post showed they were 142-145 KB each and would not upload. Since I can't resize them because I don't have Photoshop on my computer, does anyone have a suggestion short of just emailing them to the individual. I thought it might be good to have additional pictures of the Hensley stinger and Enkay Rock Tamer combination on the forum.

That sounds like a great tool Carol!

The only thing I would add is that if you plan on reducing the size of photos...do it to a copy so you can keep the higher resolution one 'as is', you never know when you might want the big one again.

I always try to name them 'photo123' then 'photo123-50' for the 1/2 sized one so I can tell what they are.

Just my 2-cents ~

Send a message via AIM to Pick
Do a search and download "JPEG Optimizer". It is a good tool for resizing the file size of digital photos. I also like Paint Shop Pro.

what type of camera do you use?

the programs that came with my cannon do a pretty good job.

Good old Windows Paint is already installed on your PC.
All you have to do is open the picture in Paint and then click on Image -> Stretch/Skew. Then adjust the image by percentage or size. I use the percentage settings. If it looks to be 50% too big adjust the image to 50%.
It works great and I use it for all sorts of things.

John,
I have a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P93 that was posting pictures fine until my computer crashed about the same time some forum changes were made. I was off the forum for more than 3 weeks until my son fixed the computer. We had Windows 2000 NT using Mozilla FireFox but changed to Windows XP and Internet Explorer due to constant problems. All is well except the pictures.

do you have picture it express? it comes bundled with older microsoft products.

it has a easy resize feature on it. might give that a try.

TinyPic.com solution

On the Mac iPhoto and Preview that come with the computer give me all I need to manipulate digital photos and I seldom bother with my Photoshop application anymore.

Another interesting solution I found is to upload to TinyPic.com. This is a free service that allows you to reference images in at some message boards. If you upload too large of a picture it will resize it automatically for you. They say images greater than 250K will get resized. I've tested it and most get resized below 100K. Once you upload you can then save the picture back to your hard drive.

I had Paint with my Windows and never knew it. It gave me fits but I finally figured it out. My first picture was sized too small and when I blew it back up it was distorted. Rats! At least I got a few pictures on there.
