AIR Forums Stats
I was recently PMing with a member who happened to inquire about some stats. I know many of you love analyzing this stuff so I though I would post some stats from the Admin Control Panel of the forum software.
Attached you can see PDFs that show 1) New Members by Month since inception of the site. 2) New Post by Month since inception of the site.
It's really quite amazing that our community has grow so large. Although we have the occasional drama and ongoing personality clashes we have a lot of fellow enthusiasts playing in the same playground and we all get along pretty darn good. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this such a fine community!
When I was in Jackson Center last fall I realized how mcuh room to grow our site has. Sometimes it feels like we cant really reach that many more Airstream fans, "they must all already be members" but each day at the factory tour there are people with so many questions and I realized the forums would be a great place for them to get answers. We need to look at ways to reach potential new members offline, maybe I can get some post cards or other paper type promotional item made to have at the factory, stores, etc.
Regards,
Andy

Cool Stuff Andy,
Can you do a line graph of the new members and posts (I do stat and econometrics), among other things? It looks like the peak, for new members, was July with 898 new members. What an incredible number!
What an outstanding success!

Awsome! Kinda like raising rabbits. (Rivets?) You are doing an amazing job of keeping all these rivets....errrr, rabbits in line. I for one appreciate your efforts.
Neil.

This statistical place might be where I can find an answer to a current dilemma. For some unknown reason I am getting responses to various threads sent to my home e-mail address. I must have clicked on something in the early days to request these - I have no idea BUT I can't get them to stop!!! Any suggestions??? I live in the most rural of locations with only a dial up service and when I get 8-10 responses from various threads, my e-mail gets really bogged down for hours with incoming messages. I try to unsubscribe but that often doesn't work. I am really getting tired of all the messages - not to mention my DW's anxieties over them. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
THANKS.......................

Oh, man, I love stats! (I do monthly stats and associated summaries for some of our web clients; Here's an example.) Does the server that AirForums resides on provide a log file that can be analyzed?

@eubank - I have most server level logging turned off because of the extra resources it uses. I use Google Analytics for web based traffic analysis. You can also see some stats from the bottom of the page, just click on the image that looks like this . Alternatively you can look at traffic stats on our Quantcast profile which is located here.
I'll probably organize some more information later on in the year as I am planning to start trying to attract direct advertisers (instead of just having them go through Google AdSense) so I'll need to process all the info when I put together that collateral. I will share that when I have it together. The most amazing figure is the spending power of our members (how much we collectively spend each year, during each restoration, and when outfitting a new unit). Those are the numbers that will appeal to advertisers.

I'm new to Airstreaming and indeed don't even have one yet (but I will, oh yes, I will ).
But I am not at all new to computer message boards. I'm an electrical & computer engineer out there in the Real World, and I've owned, posted on, and moderated various types of message boards for a couple of decades, going all the way back to a BBS that I ran as a pre-teen, off a 300 baud acoustic modem on my Apple IIc from my parents' house. It didn't take long for my folks to decide to get a separate phone line for me, that's for sure!
All of that preamble to say that in all of my experience, I've never seen a message board community so tightly knit and willing to help both established members as well as newbies. And especially a community as large as this one. Compared to the other forums that I frequent, which are aimed at subjects from boat & car restoration to college football, this one is unique in many ways. Some of you, especially the mods I'm sure, probably tend to focus on the problem users and the altercations, but from what I've seen, those are few and far between. The mods do a great job here without being too militant, and you've created a very special community.
This has actually become the place I spend the majority of my online time, though if I don't find myself a vintage Airstream to play with soon, I might go crazy with my constant re-reading of the resto/reno project threads!
Anyway, keep up the good work.

Yes, it is a huge pile of resources! And the stats reports coming from the logs are also major space-hogs. For the sites I do, I've had to start zipping all reports older than a year just so that they don't overwhelm us!

Thanks for sharing this Andy. I love this stuff. A tag-along from my former work life.
One big family, complete with the occasion family issues, and it's a great place to spend time and "meet" people.
thanks again,
Barry
