What does $1000 get you? '64 24 Foot TW!

It is in pretty good shape, but did have some rodents living inside.

Some more pics follow:

Beautiful!
You have a diamond in the rough. For what you paid, I might even consider living with the rodents, (if they didn't eat too much). Please keep us up dated with pictures and plans.

Greetings Blanchard!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of '64 Airstream ownership!

Congratulations on your find.

It looks like many of the difficult to replace original pieces are in-tact and restorable:
  • Drop-Leaf Dining Table. These wonderful little tables are so well suited to our coaches . . . can seat four for dinner and then drop the leaves and they slide in against the streetside window out of the way. They are also nice for impromptu dinners under the awning.
  • Shower Fixture. It isn't uncommon to find the faucet set and sometimes the showerhead and hose . . . but to have the shower riser intact with the correct hardware is certainly a fantastic find.
  • Twin Sink Covers. While reproding them isn't terribly difficult, re-laminating the existing tops produces good results with less effort.
  • Drop-Down Counter Leaf. The hardware for this can be difficult to replace and it looks like your coach has all of the important pieces attached to the cabinet.
  • Unaltered Lower Bath Cabinetry. It is EXTREMELY unusual to find a coach with all of the irreplacable fiberglass/ABS components to the rear bath . . . down to the bench seat the hides the toilet.
  • International Package. I couldn't tell from your photos, but I am fairly certain that the coach has the International package . . . the clues being:
    • 12-Volt convenience outlet in bathroom
    • Quilted Vinyl Ceiling Pad
    • Quilted Vinyl Wall Comfort Pads (on bedroom wall)
    • Vent Fans in both roof vents
You certainly did get a good buy on the coach . . . replacing the ZipDee awning could easily cost as much as what was paid for the coach.

Good luck with your Tradewind!

Kevin

It is likly that the twin sink will be pulled out in favour of my wife's preferred comibation burn/sink from SMEV .

I have a real tough time with this trailer, as it is in such good shape, I should restor it, but my real desire was for a renovation. We are planning to use it at a fixed vacation site three hours away. With a fixed site 120V appliances are preferred to me over 45 year old propane ones.

Decisions decisions....

Greetings Blachard!

I agree, you do have a decision. Fifteen years ago, I paid 5 times more for my Overlander than you spent on your Tradewind -- and my Overlander, while in excellent condition had a cobbled up mess in place of the original fiberglass/ABS bathroom lower enclosure, and a worn out 120-Volt AC bar refrigerator rather than the original Dometic. It is quite rare to find a coach as complete as yours - - and even the oak veneer cabinetry appears to be in very good shape . . . two panels were delaminated in my Overlander and had to be replaced. My drop-leaf table was in about the same condition as yours, but I had it restored and the gentleman who handled the restoration hand-crafted an oak top for the table (the oak actually weighs about the same as the laminate over particle board of the original). There are photos of my Overlander in its as-found condition as well as some of its restored condition in my Airforums photo album.

Good luck with your Tradewind!

Kevin
