Day 13 of the 2010 trip

Posted 09-01-2010 at 09:07 PM by HiHoAgRV

Slick Rock Campground in Moab…a pretty cool place. For an extra $5 a camper can stay past the 11:00 checkout, leaving time for late risers like us to go explore Arches National Park without draggin’ along the ‘Stream.

Arches, wow, whadda place. The entrance is kinda steep but we avoided looking ‘down’ for the short, steep incline. We only could spare a few hours so we hit the biggies. Since we tow with a Dodge “Ram”, here’s a snapshot of the Rams head…

Lots of folks for...

Day 12 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-31-2010 at 09:00 PM by HiHoAgRV

We pulled out of the Vernal KOA at the bright and early hour of 9:30, headed for Dinosaur Monument – 20 miles to the east. I guessed I missed the press release in 2006 where they closed the visitor center due to structural issues. We both were very disappointed with the “Temporary” facilities (where else in the world does “Temp” equal 4 years?)

Backtracking, we decided to stop at the Utah Visitor center and verify that our selected route of 191 was the lesser of evils…in retrospect,...

Day 11 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-31-2010 at 07:18 PM by HiHoAgRV

6 days in the Tetons with no hookups and it’s time to continue to new locations…
Looking at a topo map at one of the visitor centers, we decided to skip Yellowstone, the northern exit and the associated circus…

Head South Young Feller!

There’s still time to loop thru Arches, Moab, Monument Valley and still make it back to Mississippi by Labor Day, gotta go to work after that…

So we exit Jackson on Hwy 191 and head toward the day’s goal of Vernal UT....

Day 10 of the 2010 trip

Posted 08-30-2010 at 10:19 PM by HiHoAgRV

Hiking…Today we decided to trek to Hidden Falls…a ferry boat ride across Jenny Lake (a much smaller lake that I imagined) and a short trail to a magical spot. (My) Words can’t describe and photos just aren’t the same, but here are some snap shots…A few spots were ripe for imagining hidden trails…

After the hike we decided to look for moose…peek a boo was the best we could do. Back to camp for the last night (6) in the Tetons…

Day 9 of the 2010 Trip

Posted 08-29-2010 at 11:40 AM by HiHoAgRV

Today forecast rain so we figured some truck touring would be appropriate. We elected to head toward Jenny Lake and on to the Moose Visitor Center. The first stop was actually at the Jackson Lodge where we found 3G coverage and uploaded emails and yesterdays Blog entry. The next stop was Willow Overlook were we saw a couple of dozen Elk feeding in the grass flats. Then onto Jenny Lake for some snap shots as the low clouds blew past the peaks. We decided that tomorrow would be a good day to hike...
