Nearby: Charlevoix, Boyne City and East Jordan all offer small town charm, especially in the summer months. They each offer dining and shopping opportunities as well as holiday events and festivals. Charlevoix has a Venetian Festival, Boyne City has a Mushroom Fest, East Jordan has a Freedom Fest and Horton Bay sponsors a 4th of July parade.
Attractions - Young State Park is located on Lake Charlevoix, a beautiful inland lake offering boaters access to Lake Michigan. It is great for sailing, power boating, waterskiing, and fishing. There is a boat launch within the park for boats under 16 feet in length.

Lake Charlevoix is stocked annually with rainbow, brown, and lake trout. Mirror Pond provides a good fishing site for children. The pond is stocked with sunfish and rock bass.

Young State Park has 240 modern campsites with electricity. There is easy access to bathroom and shower facilities as well. The campsites are spread across three campgrounds named Terrace, Oak, and Spruce. Modern camping facilities are open May 1 to November 1. There are two mini-cabins available for rent in the park named Timberdoodle and Sundew. Each cabin includes two sets of bunk beds, a small table with two chairs, a picnic table, and a fire ring. The cabins are designed to sleep four comfortably, and electricity is available.

There is plenty of day use parking for trailers and cars near the large, sandy beach on Lake Charlevoix. Overlooking the beach and grassy picnic area is a classic log building, which houses a concession store.

There are nearly five miles of nature trails that are perfect for hiking, jogging, and nature study in the park. Cross-country skiing is a very popular winter activity in the park. The ski trailhead is located across the road from the park headquarters.

Modern sites in three campgrounds: Spruce 158 sites, Terrace 41, and Oak 41.

Pros: Great for families, nice swimming beach, campstore
Cons: Can be crowded, be sure to reserve

This is a very nice campground for families, lots of children and nice playgrounds. In July the park is booked up, so be sure to reserve early. We lucked into a spot that month by checking the website daily for cancellations.Trails were not well groomed, lots of tree roots. The beach is great, water is very warm in July and there are sites on the water and near the beach in two campgrounds, see maps. The campstore has great icecream.New shower facilities, very clean and well kept up campground.Excellent for boaters, kayakers nice recreational kayaking on an inland lake.Lovely resort towns in the area to visit. We'd come here again when we have a chance to camp with other families with kids.
