Description: The free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries pass through 90 miles of scenic gorges and valleys containing a wide range of natural and historic features. The area offers a broad range of recreational opportunities including camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting and fishing. Pros: Many activities, lovely scenery, w/e hook-ups
Cons: A bit off the beaten track

The Bandy Creek Campground of the Big South Fork NRA is super clean. The bathhouse and the restrooms were new and constantly maintained during our stay. There is so much to do here for folks with an active lifestyle, if you bike there is a 8 mile mountain bike trail. If you kayak and canoe, lots of information/outfitters, be careful though the river has various stages for different types of kayakers, white water and recreational. There are horse campgrounds, lots of great hiking trails. A quaint village of Rugby, Tn with Victorian houses and neat gift shops. Jamestown has a Walmart if you need supplies. The pool was very clean, with lifeguards. There arelocal artisans' crafts for sale at the visitors' center. So far this is the cleanest public campground I have been in. Lovely private campsites. We went in peak camping season, June, and it was not crowded. Some have likened this to the Smokies (without the mountains) in terms of beauty, and without the crowds. Make sure you are stocked up on supplies its a fair piece down the road to stores. If you prefer lots of stores, and city conveniences you won't be happy here--no coffee shops, bookstores, etc.We will come here again.
