Camping Fee: $27/$16
unit map at: http://www.michigandnr.com/Publicati...erness_map.pdf
Total Number of Sites: 250
11 miles W. of Mackinaw City on Wilderness Park Drive. Wilderness areas and a beautiful shoreline provide great places to observe nature from the numerous trails throughout the park. The park's 250 modern campsites are divided into two units, the Lakeshore and the Pines. View of Mackinac Bridge and gorgeous sunsets from Lakeshore. Easy access to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. Modern Campsite - $27-$16 per night
Be sure to read the campsite description some sites are very small on the inner section of the campground. The trails are mostly woodland, very nice. Drive down to the end of the peninsula and see that part of the park, its really lovely. This is a great spot to stay if you plan to visit Mackinac Island you can just drive to Mackinaw City, park at the ferry, and spend the day on the Island. The rangers are helpful and patrol the park. The lakeside campground needs repaving in some spots, but the lakefront campsites are great. Reserve 6 months in advance at http://www.midnrreservations.com/

Lakeshore's lakefront camping sites are like having your own beach

Cons:

Lakeshore bathhouse needs remodeling/still its clean

A great park, the lakefront lakeshore campsites are the best. It is like having your own personal beach--handy if you brought kayaks or canoes. Other sites are lovely all the same. Most of the campsites are very private. You can see the Mackinac Bridge in the distance. Very clean facilities, lakeshore bathhouses are very clean but need remodeling. Sites vary but are well described on the website. Be sure to book in advance, and keep checking for cancellations if you can't find the weekend/dates you want. Every day new openings are posted. Not far from Mackinaw City or the ferries to Mackinac Island.Nearby campstore is like a glimpse of the 1950s with great homemade donuts, ice cream, and the odd camping goods you might have forgotten We camp here every season. Full hook-up campgrounds are nearby, but you can't beat this place for the lakeshore beauty.
