Description:
|
Gunter Hill Campground is approximately 10 miles west of Montgomery, Ala, and is along the backwaters of the Alabama River.
The campground is on Catoma Creek and is in a forest of hickory and pine trees. While the water way is officially classified as a "creek," it is larger than many rivers.
Many of the campers brought boats (there is a boat ramp at this park) and fishing seemed to be one of the highlights for many campers.
Several sites have great views of the creek.
The campground is currently going through a renovation phase. Half of the park was closed when were visited and will reopen with improved sites and facilities. At that time, the loop we stayed in will close for renovations. While the park and rest rooms/showers were clean, they were showing signs of age and the upgrades will help.
This park seems to be popular with people living close to it.
